Let me see if I remember how the OTJ works.

I tested AMPS and he was green so I started the trial.
I continue testing him only for AM & PM unless I see "blue" - then I test every 4 hours.
If I see a "blue" number, I post and ask whether I go back to insulin or not.
I continue like this for 14 days, then I test once a day, then once a week and finally once a month.
I also monitor weight and ketones.

Did I get it right?

Elise sent me the instructions a few days ago, see below. Happy day 1!

OTJ instructions
  • Start the trial on the next green pre shot.
  • If she is green at your normal test times, no need to test further until the next "PS" time; just feed small meals and go about your day. If she is blue at your normal "PS", feed a small meal and test again after about 3 or 4 hours. If her number is lower 3-4 hours after a meal, then the pancreas is working!
  • Post every day so we can monitor your progress and see if any tweaks are needed. She may have a sporadic blue number. Don't panic but post before you decide whether to shoot so we can have a discussion.
  • After 14 days of no insulin, we have a party!!

Sometimes the trial doesn't work the first time and we haveto give a little more support in the form of resuminginsulin. It's not the end of the world if that happens; we justgive her the support needed. Our goal is a strong remission and it's better to take our time to get that than to rush intoremission just to have it fail later on.

Once she is through the trial successfully, you enter a newphase. Your cat is still diabetic but has now become diet-controlled. Continue feeding low carb food in the mannersuccessful for your kitty. If you decide to change herfeeding schedule, let your meter be your guide to the best times to feed. Avoid medications with sugar in them andsteroid medications unless they are medically essential. Continue testing blood glucose weekly for the first monthand then monthly forever. It's a good idea to weigh her monthly. Weight should remain stable. If she seems "off" orsick, or is showing signs of diabetes (excessive drinking, eating, urinating, weight loss), test her blood glucose right away. Keep the teeth and gums clean and healthy; dental issues can bring a cat out of remission. If you see risingblood glucose numbers, it's time for a visit to the vet!

Good luck!

Remember, this trial is for you too. If you see a green preshot - no sneaking in another one before PMPS! :p Happy Day 1. :D

What do you mean? I stop testing even at +6 ???

Also I remember we don't call them AMPS & PMPS anymore.... What do we call them?

Good Luck! I don't know how you all resist checking between AMBG and PMBG. Is it bad if one were to check? Kicked out of the forum bad? If you don't get kicked out, I say it's worth it to check. :nailbiting::woot:
