@Wendy&Neko in regard to your question last night about her most recent bloodwork & dental check... It's been a while. I don't recall the exact date of her most recent exam, but it would have been several months back at least. She hasn't had any visits to the vet since she was originally diagnosed in September-October of last year (2023). Our former vet had wanted us to come into the office for a curve/checkup a month ago, but then they dismissed us as patients after disagreement about running home curves & dose adjustments. We have an appointment with a new vet, but it is not until July. I plan to try and get in sooner if there are any cancellations, but we'll have to see what happens.

Today will be day 3 of the latest increase, should I stay the course and continue going up by 0.25 every 3 days until numbers start going down?

If you don't see blue by tomorrow morning, you can increase by 0.25 units.

Amy chance you can look in her mouth and see if there is any red along the gum line? Did you get that insulin refill yet? If so. could you mark on the spreadsheet when you started it? Just trying to eliminate any reasons for her numbers. Also, how is she feeling/doing in general?

Oh, I meant to make a note of when I started the new pen, I will make sure that gets added. I couldn't get the best look in her mouth, but from what I could see... Yeah, it looks like her teeth are not in the best shape. She otherwise seems like her normal self. I never considered a dental issue could be the root, but after your comment I did more reading and see that it could well be the culprit here. She has had tooth problems in the past, and I believe even had one extracted many years ago, long before the FD diagnosis.

I don't know when we'd be able to get her a cleaning or dental exam before July, but I will try.

Maybe call the new to be vet and see if a pending dental gets you bumped up?
I had already planned to check on getting in on a possible cancellation, so I'll definitely get ahold of them and let them know if nothing else, to add that as something to check for when we finally get in. And I'll keep trying to get in sooner. What terrible timing to lose a vet, although I know the change will hopefully be for the better.

We used to feed her Greenies dental treats daily, but since removing all dry food from her diet she hasn't had those crunchies on her teeth. Is there anything I can do as sort of "damage control" until we can get in to be seen? I recall having a cat toothbrush at one point when she had dental problems before, but that really didn't go well :rolleyes: hahaha.

A couple possibilities. Instead of a toothbrush, you can do a piece of gauze wetted down. It provides enough friction to remove some of the gunk That also means you have to go in her mouth, so not always something you can train an older cat. I used to give Neko small 1 inch pieces of raw chicken bone (necks) and chicken gizzards lightly boiled. Both are tough to chew and can help clean the teeth.
