Good morning:):cat:

Sending healing prayers to all the kitties and their caretakers that are not feeling their best:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Fed Dolly an hour before testing ate up tp 1/2 hour pre test - hope this is a food bump, I think this was a mistake - I am in panic mode. I have to leave at +4 for hours for bone density

attached file are the treats I started giving her, now worried they are worse than the Young Again Zero treats

For now back to Young Again Zero treats

Hi A, the 163 is probably a food bump. And those treats are HC. Ditch them!

Why are you in panic mode? She settles down by +4 and it should be safe to leave.
Good luck with your test! :-)

Thanks Bhooma. I just don’t feel like me since my accident. Making stupid choices. Dolly mad at me half the time because she picks up on my mood. :(

How can the treats be high carb? They are nothing but meat? No... I just looked up carb content for hearts, gizzards and the monkfish and almost zero carbs for all of them. What is it? I don't see tapioca starch or any starches added. I don't see how it can be the treats. What else is in there that I am missing?

Yeah, right? I would have thought so too, but the protein + fat % in the GA add up to only 80%. If you input the GA values in a carb calculator, you get 17% carbs. GA is an approximation but even with As Fed or DMB, I doubt 17% would fall to below 10%!

So I've no idea what they've added to make it HC and why those are not in the ingredients! Very fishy!

Hi Suzanne, I read the guaranteed analysis and if you go by that they are high carb. If you go by the ingredients I see nothing but proteins. I am confused, my new normal state of mind

Glad to welcome you to the Confused State of Mind Club! We have regular meetings where we share our confusion :-) I'm so confused about what's happened or is going on with my cat that I don't know what to do (especially after my visit with my endocrinologist yesterday... but that's another story that I'll probably be posting on the acrocat group.)

That Guaranteed Analysis makes no sense at all unless they're not being up front about their ingredients list. I always get confused by the (Min.) thing. Does that mean there could possibly be more than 45% protein?

Dolly will float back down, try not to worry too much. Hope your test comes back with good results, Adrienne. :bighug:

Katherine is right. Don't worry too much about Dolly today. She's going to be in safe numbers while you are gone and she's very unlikely to go outside of blue territory. It's okay. All cats have off days now and then, and if it's something else going on besides just the food/treats, you will find out.

I hope your bone density test today comes back with good results. Don't they do the x-ray? Of the wrist/hand area? Is that how they will do it?
They X-ray the whole body. Mine never comes out good. I have osteoporosis and
other than calcium I can’t take any of the drugs available. I have osteonecrosis, dead jaw, the reason for my chronic pain. Caused by Fosamax, one of those drugs for bone building. Weighing 91 at the moment doesn’t help. I really am on the pity pot today, sorry all. I hope and pray you get some resolutions for Darcy. You and Darcy are always in my prayers. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Do you also take magnesium and phosphorus... both needed for bone building (I'm sure you already know that). What about a bit of estrogen (I know, I know) but some bioidentical estrogen balanced with some bioidentical progesterone might help to build bone. You live in CA, right? The docs out there should be progressive enough that you could find one who is trained and well-versed in the use of bioidentical hormones. There may be a few others that would be good to add to the mix as well.

How about that... Fosomax was supposed to help you and it hurt you. I have read about some bad side effects from those osteoporosis drugs.

Her usual grazing, food always out.
I leave food out at night until around +7 or 8. She rarely eats this food unless she eats some of it right away, her social eater pattern. Tried a timed feeder, she doesn’t like it, bowls too deep and I still would have to be there. I put her food near my bed so at least I am sort of there. She is so hungry at AMPS but then eats just a little at a time, grazing begins.

Hugs Adrienne :bighug: Hope everything went smoothly today. And sorry about the treats...the commercial pet food industry is so very confusing - most companies only share the bare minimum (i.e. those GA values)

Those Orijen treats are LC. Many people here have given them before with no impact on BG. I have in the past given the Original flavour to Neko with no issues. Though the ones I fed were made in Canada. I can't imagine our chickens and turkeys have that fewer carbs in them. ;)

upload_2021-5-21_19-36-10.jpeg

guaranteed analysis, that is not readable
46% protein, 31% fat, 2% Fiber, 8% moisture = 87%. 13% carbs. Does not make sense. Under ingredients it just says chicken

Guaranteed Analysis just tells you minimums, not actual percentages.

Thanks for clarifying this, Wendy. I am surprised that GA can be so different from Actual. I've seen some variation but never this much!

She's probably mad at you for being so hard on yourself! :bighug:
Talk about flat numbers o_O My buddies Bhooma, Bandit and sweet Budge, do any of you have a guess on what’s going on with Dolly? DQ:p here. She has had attitude with me ever since I came home from the hospital. I couldn’t take care of her for the first 2-3 weeks after I got home. That was 6 weeks ago, can they carry a grudge for that long? I’m worried about her. She’s eating well but doesn’t play by herself at night anymore. Honestly, if she’s on the floor with her toys and I join her, she jumps on the couch and goes in her bed. We get some special times when I rub her ears and neck but only if she’s in the mood. I know this all sounds stupid ....... she is a cat. I will do a +4 and go to bed. She is on those Cosequin injections and has tested positive for hypothyroidism on the Free T4 equilibrium dialysis without symptoms. To be rechecked in June. IDK Bhooma, just me being me :nailbiting:. I know you are busy, thanks for listening. Have a lovely day and big hugs to Bandit and Budge, Bhooma too:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug: Maybe I fractured my brain, not my femur.

Oh Adrienne, I didn't know that you have osteonecrosis, I know that any
bisphosphonates can cause that. The pain must be awful for you ♥
My heart goes out to you. Ashley had 2 jaw surgery's due to TMJ in 2011 and 2012
They failed years ago and the only way to correct her jaw is to have an osteotomy
Saw the jaw in half, put it in position with 30 screws on each side.
Forget about having that it will just make her CRPS worse.
So she can't chew anything, lives on all applesauce, and yogurt that's all.
If she tries to chew anything the pain starts up.
You can be on the pity pot, you are dealing with so much every day.
I pray for you to have some better days than others.
Big hugs Adrienne and kisses for Dolly ♥:bighug::bighug::bighug:

Diane I can hardly feel bad about anything when I know what you and Ashley live with every moment of every day. I was sent to UCLA to see a head and neck surgeon. He said my only option would be to get a jaw replacement with a 50/50 chance of success, 50% it would slide over to the other side of my face due to bone loss and not recommended. My God is there anything that Ashley enjoys if only for moments? There really are no words to express my heartfelt pain and sadness for you as a mom and for Ashley, such a young woman, that suffers so much and without end. I’ve always felt there are life lessons to learn from adversity. I don’t know what there could possibly be for you or Ashley to learn from this, a precarious ( may not be the best description) will to live. You are both in my prayers with hope for possibilities. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:Hugs to Tyler too :bighug::bighug::bighug:o

I'm so sorry to hear that the jaw replacement wasn't recommended.
Life lessons my butt lol
There are days that I say why did this happen to her.
I am catholic but don't go to church, and I gave up on praying, may sound awful
but that's how I feel
There are days when not so nice words come out of my mouth lol
:p
I just get so livid that I can't help her and a lot of these doctors are just idiots.
I am all Italian and I have to be honest I have a very bad temper lol
and on days that are not going that great I just say I hope I don't run into anyone that is going to aggravate me and set me off lol
I don't believe there is a reason for everything either anymore
or God will never give you more than you can handle that's a joke
I never judge anyone, if you want to pray to ok
Well now that I ranted lol I wish you all the best and better days for you
Adrienne.
Tyler is laying at the end of my bed snoring up a storm , I'm going to have to give him a nudge because I can't take it anymore :banghead:
He's so loud
It's 3:40 now, just had a cup of coffee , crazy right
Think I better try and go to sleep .
I will talk to you soon
Kisses for adorable Dolly ♥:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:
