I held the 3 for the four days that the vet wanted but I want to go back to the 3.5 asap. I think any good numbers I saw from the 3 were due to leftover action from the 3.75, like Suzanne said. My brother thinks I should try 3.25 instead but I don't see why we should be afraid of the 3.5 when she was fine on it for a whole two weeks.
If it was going to do anything bad, I'd think it would have done so then. Sure, it's just a drop difference from the 3.75 that "crashed" her, but using calipers can help ensure she gets only what she should. I won't be able to monitor her until tonight, but then Saturday I start work again at my second job so won't be able to monitor until Saturday evening, so trying to figure out when I'll feel comfortable raising her back up, just as a precaution.
I weighed her Wednesday and she lost 3 ounces from last week.
I know she's tubby and should lose anyway, but I don't like when it's not intentional. Could be because she's been having diarrhea here and there. Last night it was a tad bloody. I really think that Purina DM dry has to go. For instance, she never had gas until she was put on that years ago. I wonder if over time, if that food has irritated her intestines and gotten her to where she is today (despite the vets saying oh, it's the best food). It's pretty much all she ate, so process of elimination here.
I'm continuing to try converting her to the canned.
She seemed to really like the Fancy Feast tender beef entree pate (not in a can; it's in a plastic container like how Sheba is). But then here's the thing: the first day she tried it, the diarrhea also started back up.
So it's like, I want to get her on something other than the Purina DM dry because I wonder if that's causing her stomach issues, but then I also wonder if any of this wet food could be causing problems too. The local vet said I could try a different prescription food to mix 50/50 with her Purina DM, like the Hill's gastrointestinal biome, Royal Canin gastrointestinal, or Purina Pro Plan veterinary diet EN gastroenteric, but I'm suspicious of more prescription food. Anyone ever try any of those?
