Numbers are still crappy after the increase five cycles ago, probably related to the on-going chin issues that did NOT get resolved yet. Please refer to the discussion in Health for the reasons why: health discussion.

I don't really expect to see any good numbers until we figure out what is going on with his chin, which is frustrating. The appointment isn't until next Tuesday, and there is absolutely no way to make it any sooner because it's so far away and it a whole-day event. For now, he's on antibiotics to keep it from getting infected, and my vet wanted to put him on steroids for the possible inflammation but I refused. So we're waiting until next Tuesday. :-|

It sounds like you are in a very difficult situation with your vet, but at least you know what you want and what you don't want. I hope it works out.

ohmygod_smile OMG, that's how Morris became diabetic....9 years ago they gave him steroids for a lousy chin acne and he became diabetic...and still has the acne LOL! Roni (of Roni & Moonie) is using Clavamox on it and it seems to be working for them. I'd only do steroids as a last resort...I know they have their place but am scared to death of them.

This whole situation sounds incredibly frustrating. One relatively quick way I've found to find out information is to call your nearest vet school. If you were to get hold of a veterinary anesthesiologist, they could easily answer your questions about anesthesia comparisons and direct you to the research. When I was dealing with ringworm and had a question about topicals that my vet couldn't answer, I called the vet school and the dermatologist and pharmacologist I spoke with were incredibly helpful. I suspect if you let them know you're a professional in the field, have done a lit search and came up empty, but you were looking for some expert guidance, the faculty will bend over backwards to be helpful. It's the nature of academia -- professors like to teach and they love to hear that someone has done their homework and has questions.

Poor Pablo! My Pepper sympathizes.. as he is going through some nasty chin issues right now too..
