Good Sunday morning,
A pink start, not thrilled. However she had 2 nice cycles yesterday. She should come down quickly from this high. Ivy clears bounces very fast.
Still trying to understand the difference between a bounce and a loss of duration. Was yesterday am cycle 1/13 a loss of duration? @Marje and Gracie

Also, does anyone know if a feeder exists which you can remotely open it from an app?
That would be helpful if I had to be out and saw numbers dropping on her Libre sensor app and could open the feeder on command to give carbs. (Am I making this up?)

And one more thought..is there a supplement specifically for pancreas support that anyone uses? My vet had me giving one but it’s been discontinued.

Have a safe and warm Sunday, everyone. :cat:

Good morning Staci!
Ivy is coming down already, good girl :)
I would be curious to know what causes loss of duration! Thanks for bringing this up, Staci.
I don't know the answer to your feeder question, but indeed it would be nice to have a remote operation! Everything has a remote operation nowadays, I'm sure someone came up with one for kitty feeders too!
Wishing you and Ivy a lovely Sunday! :bighug:

I don't know if you're making up a remote feeder, but if it's real, I want one!

My problem is even with an auto feeder, Sly would find all of them and eat the food. This week we beed to go back on a diet, he's too round.. Lol

I hope Ivy does her thang for you today, Staci!!:bighug:

Dropping pretty fast this cycle
At +2 158
At +2.25 98
(BGs on Libre sensor)
Fed 1 tsp 9.25% mixed with 6% snack 1.5 tbsp at +2
Fed:
1/2 tsp 9.25% at +2.25
Trying to slow the drop so she can more gently surf. Let’s see if this works. Sigh.

Investigating this remote controlled feeder, thoughts anyone?? (on Amazon)

Hi Deb, yep she’s doing her thang!!
Let me know what you think of the feeder I linked.

Maybe a diet will help your handsome boy :)

Hi Kit, she’s getting to it on a Sunday. Hope Mikan is having a safe surf!
How were all the baked goodies yesterday?
I agree about all remote controlled stuff. This would be help and give me peace of mind if I go out knowing I could open it for higher carbs to stall a drop till I could get home. Of course she would have to get out of her bed and go eat. lol.
Have a nice Sunday! :bighug:

Happy Sunday

Looks like Ivy wanted to have some trampoline fun this AM but you're right she clears those bounces really fast meow.
Hopefully the rest of the day/night is uneventful and boring.

Hello Staci! Nice cycle again for Ivy!
I don't have answers to your questions, but I'm sure others will. For what it's worth, when I have to go out, for work or other, and it looks like Bella might keep going down into too low numbers, I put her feeder on with snacks at +1, +2, +3. It always helped, but then I don;t see every single minute of her BG, so not sure where it goes in the meantime.

@Deb and Sylvester here you go :)

This looks like it would work. Mine is not Wi-Fi or chilled but looks a lot like this. It works great for Tigers middle of the night snack. It took him maybe 2 nights to catch on to it. Being that this one is Wi-Fi enabled, you should be able to program it to drop within a few minutes. The reviews all in all seemed positive too. I may think about this one to change Tiger over from kibble to a LC wet snack at night.

Thanks, sweet Karolina! Looks like a good one too. I’m going to get one for when I need to activate a higher carb if I’m out. Right now I do leave her snacks if I go out in the evening In an auto feeder, but they are timed to one hour increments.
But if I saw her dropping on the Libre and at a moment’s notice, and I wanted to give her a higher carb, I could set this up and then through an app activate it to open right away.
Just one more step with technology to keep her safer so I could feel more secure if I had to go out for a few hours and no one was home to feed some food right away.
Thanks for your help and hope you and your sweet kitties are having a warm sunny day :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Deb, the one I have has ice packs and can be used for wet food. And it works great. But it’s not wifi or app controlled and I want that feature to drop higher carbs if needed. I may get one of these very soon! :)

Still trying to understand the difference between a bounce and a loss of duration. Was yesterday am cycle 1/13 a loss of duration? @Marje and Gracie
It looks to me like she lost duration at +7 yesterday. The way lantus works, after nadir, the BG should start to rise gradually until the next PS. Rising from 60 to 187 with just 6% food is not something that “should” happen. By +11, she was 314 and then she got a Lantus second dip at PMPS. When she onset last night, she came back down below 200. Bounces don’t clear that quickly. She also lost duration today.

The usual culprit is food but it can also be absorption. Absorption of the insulin can vary as much as 50% from shot to shot. That doesn’t mean it always does but it “can”. I remember one cat that was doing this and when I started getting into it (and this person had been around awhile as well), the method of shooting was preventing the insulin from getting into the subq layer so the absorption was less and duration less. I’m not suggesting you are not shooting correctly but it is a reason loss of duration can happen. When I showed the member this post and had her try “rolling” the skin instead of tenting, her cat started getting much better duration.

And sometimes, we just don’t know why they aren’t getting full duration. While it can be occasionally (but is seldom) the dose, it’s not in this case because she’s getting down into BGs below 100. If you are feeding correctly, shooting correctly, then you have to just accept that she’s doing this right now. It might not always be her pattern. I had this issue with Gracie when she was on Lantus; I switched her to Levemir and she started getting crazy duration as in often 15 hours so we had a lot of great overlap and carryover, obviously.

And one more thought..is there a supplement specifically for pancreas support that anyone uses? My vet had me giving one but it’s been discontinued.
Why and what did she have you giving Ivy? I can suggest some really good products but would like to know the basis for a pancreas supplement and what she was getting before. I have found that some vets prescribe pancreatic enzymes and cats should not have pancreatic enzymes (these are usually prescription only and are quite pricey) unless a cat has been diagnosed with exocrine pancreatic insufficiency.

I had a feeling she was losing duration from what you have been saying.
Well, I can try this technique to see if I can do it. I tried it a long time ago but it felt too awkward. But maybe I’m not tenting properly and she’s not absorbing the insulin as she should. I’ll give the roll a try! :)

She’s been taking Pan Chelate by Progressive Laboratories, 1/4 capsule 2x a day mixed in her food. She thought it ”would be good to support the pancreas”
But it’s unavailable any longer.

Do what works for you. I don’t want you to worry about giving a fur shot if that is not comfortable for you.

Ok. Got it; because of the FD, she’s just trying to give the pancreas a little extra love. Does she use Standard Process? There are a few things there but not that have the exact ingredients you were giving. I tried a few things from SP with chromium and also a few things that were just supposed to help with FD but none of it ever made any difference in terms of Gracie’s BG. But for just giving the pancreas some extra love, the Adored Beast Liver Tonic supports the pancreas. The Gut Soothe is also a great digestive enzyme.

I will see if I can try the technique. Maybe it will work since it’s been a while. But you’re right. Don’t want to do a FS!!

Yes I use SP (renal support and VF Bio dent ).
I agree she just wanted to support the pancreas.
The Adored Beast keeps popping up. That may be the winner.
Thanks again! :bighug:

You’re welcome. My vet has spoken with the owner numerous time and she (my vet) is really sold on this line. She has the most amazing knowledge of all the latest in holistic medicine and treatments with supplements.

I’m glad to hear that.
I’ve been using their products since the 1990s -early 2000s for my previous cats. And I think 2 different vets I used loved their line. And my nutritionist also likes them and I think has done some work with them in the past also.
I think they are a solid company in holistic medicine.
My husband takes their Allerplex and loves it!

Sorry...I meant my vet had spoken with the owner of AB many times but I know she also knows the owner of SP because she’s been to several of their courses. NRT has a foundation in SP but it’s moved way past that now. We’ve used Allerplex before. I had a very elderly kitty who developed asthma-like symptoms at 18 and she took Allerplex the last three years of her life and never had the symptoms again after she started it. Great stuff.

Oh and you find something that also strikes the cat and get his lazy ass to get up to eat from the feeder I’ll get one for Fistuk :p:p:p
I ordered this last night. I’ll report back once I set it up. Very curious about the remote ability of this device. Hoping it will aid in my goal to keep her safe!! Hope others will find this idea helpful, too :)
It takes a team of all of us to put our heads together to brainstorm ideas that we can all share and benefit for our sweet kitties

Marne, what were these symptoms? I’m asking since Fistuk’s brother, Prince shows some asthma signs
Coughing with the neck extended. There are many videos on YouTube that show asthmatic cats. My kitty was not doing it often but I took her in for an X-ray as asthma can and does kill in humans and pets. Her X-ray just showed mild allergic inflammation and I think that’s why the Allerplex worked so well for her; she wasn’t diagnosed with asthma.

For a cat diagnosed with asthma, Allerplex on its own is unlikely to work but could be a good support. I’d have Prince’s lungs xrayed if it were me.

he's had his lungs x-rayed in the past and wasn't diagnosed with asthma. He's coughing just like you described. I'll explore Allerplex. Thank you :)
