? 1/2/23 Buddy Update: AMPS: 455 (taking to vet for constipation)

@Jackie and Biggie - not sure if you saw @lbeachmike's update or not.

All it took was taking him to the vet.

We received a call about an hour later that he took an extremely large dump in the cage at the vet's office while waiting for them to examine him.

He, literally, go the sh!t scared out of him.....and we haven't slept all weekend and i cried all morning.

LOL, gotta love them!!! (and we do)

Next time get out the carrier and if not enough go for a ride in the car. Maybe when you return he will go. Seriously glad he went. I gave miralax twice a day and a teaspoon of pumpkin twice a day when Max was getting ondansetron for more than a few days and that seemed to help. The rest of the time miralax once or twice a day seemed to help.

Great news! So glad he was able to go on his own, and it wasn’t a $700 poop for him!

I’m so happy for Buddy! I have horses and they are very prone to colic, stomach issues and impaction, it’s a well known trick to take a colicky horse and drive them around in the trailer to help them “go” and jiggle the belly ache right out of them. Looks like a good strategy for cats too!

That does make sense!

We learn something new EVERYDAY on this forum!! This may be the new trick we share with everyone. ;)

Is it true that driving them around does the trick? Our vet is right up the street, so it definitely wasn't the car ride - but I think the fear of being at the vet ... and/or all the laxatives just finally did their job. Or he was just messing with us :)

I'm curious to see if Buddy's "relief" helps his numbers. He's definitely got to feel better now.

To answer your question in the first post, you can almost always shoot. Lantus takes 2-3 hours to onset, so you have that much time to get food into them. Side note, one of the other things I loved about Levemir is that with Neko I had 5 hours to get food into her, the onset is later. And as far as not eating at all, even cats undergoing anaesthesia who cannot eat, are typically given a half dose. Insulin does more than combat the carbs in food.

@Wendy&Neko: His +3 number was 389 and his +7 number was 204! :) (we use the Alpatrak2)

Two variables changed: We upped his dose last night and he's no longer constipated.
