    last condo

Jack got his water wings yesterday. I'm heartbroken, but despite eating more he was just too weak and slowly getting worse. He would have a bad spell for an hour or two and perk up some to come get some food and scritches. Through the last days he wanted to be in the hallway outside my room or hang out in the room with me.

Our last day, he wanted up on the couch and took a little nap with me. He even wanted to take a slow walk around the house, he liked his outside time and never ran, just hung out with his bean.

We put up a h-e-double hockey sticks of a fight and he was a trooper the whole way through. I did everything I could for the boy and he let me know when it was time.

You will be sorely missed my boy, I hope the waters are calm and the wind is at your back as you make your way to the bridge to reunite with your friends.

Thank you everyone for your support and guidance. It has been invaluable in making sure Jack got the best care he could.

Before humans die, they write their last Will & Testament, give their home and all they have, to those they leave behind. If with my paws, I could do the same, this is what I’d ask… To a poor and lonely stray I’d give: -My happy home. -My bowl and cozy bed, soft pillows and all my toys. -The lap, which I loved so much. -The hand that stroked my fur and the sweet voice which spoke my name.

I’d Will to the sad, scared shelter pet, the place I had in my human’s loving heart, of which there seemed no bounds. So, when I die, please do not say, “I will never have a pet again, for the loss and pain is more than I can stand” Instead, go find an unloved pet, one whose life has held no joy or hope and give MY place to them. This is the only thing I can give… The love I left behind.

    Wes & Jack

    Dear (((Wes))),
Capt. Jack has sailed up to the Bridge, where the crew there is giving him a hearty welcome. He is "in good paws" with all of our GAs. Your tribute to your boy is beautiful. He'll always be with you in that special place in your heart that belongs only to him. I have a feeling that Jack will have a paw in guiding you to the kitty who finds a furever home with you.

Fly free, sweet Jack! You are much loved. cat_wings>o

{{{Wes}}} I am typing with tears on the keyboard for how much this hurts you. I am so, so sorry. :bighug::bighug: Your stories of Captain Jack tell me how much you cared for him and how much that love was returned. We build such a bond with our diabetic cats and especially those with acromegaly. I know it's been a hard road for you too. Please take care of yourself this next while. Neko and our other GAs will welcome Jack at the Bridge.

(((Wes))) There are no words of comfort I can offer at this time because Jack’s loss is so profound for you and we are all heartbroken that you have to know this grief. I have to say in all my years here, I can count on four fingers when I’ve seen a man love a cat so much and go the extent you have to care for him. Capt Jack is, indeed, a lucky boy to have that kind of love.

And thank you for the lesson that a great tribute to our beloved kitties gone ahead is to love another.

    Our deepest condolences, Wes.

I'm so sorry. Prayers for you as you grieve his loss.
Jack's will is very true. I just found an abandoned Maine Coon cat living outdoors and am trying to get it to let me near. s/he was starving, and it's mostly 20 degrees every night. I can get about 6 feet away and it accepts food dishes. If I can ever catch it ( i will likely borrow a trap eventually) I will take it to our local no kill shelter.
    ( i already have 4 pets)

There are just so many needy ones out there in the world so I hope you find someone else to give to when you are ready.

    Fly Free Jack.

Thoughts and prayers for comfort as you learn to live with the hole in your heart.

I am so deeply sorry to learn that Captain Jack has sailed off to calmer seas. We all grieve for you and with you.:bighug: He was, indeed a very smart cat, so I have no doubt he knew how much you loved him - enough to give him the ultimate gift. I think we all have watched your journey with Jack with a little bit of amazement and a lot of admiration. You certainly went above and beyond to make sure he got the best possible care. No one could have done more.

You have been a very supportive member here, especially with others struggling with high dose kitties. I hope, once you have had time to process this huge change in your life, that you will come back often, to let us know how you are doing, and to share your knowledge and experience with others.

Captain Jack, may the wind be always at your back, may the sun shine upon your face, and may the seas you sail be calm and peaceful, until you are reunited with those you love best.

This is so heartbreaking and words cannot describe the sadness I feel right now. Jack was such a special kitty that always beat to his own drum and a real trooper till the very end. The special bond you had with him was so evident in your condos and always gave me smile when checking in on his progress. The care you gave him was above and beyond what any bean could do and has given me continued inspiration in the acro/high-dose fight. Jack's final words in your moving tribute could not have been expressed any better. Just as Bronx and Jack shared similarities, their beans also have a special connection here. Take good care Wes, my prayers and thoughts are with you. The Captain will never be forgotten.

I'm reminded of a Tennyson poem called "Crossing the Bar":

    Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,

But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
    Turns again home.

    Twilight and evening bell,
    And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
    When I embark;

For though from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crossed the bar.

Safe travels sweet Jack. You'll be missed as much as you were loved. :rb_icon:
