Link to yesterday

Since Spacey is on Lantus her #'s are mostly in the yellow & blue. So much better in comparison.
But today my little fur ball isn't happy at all.
Eyes = watery
Appetite = moderate
Getting tested = injury for bean very likely
Mentality = very cranky, want's to be left alone
Breathing = more rapid

She did leak urine yesterday evening again. I'm going to call the vet and ask whether giving the antibiotics after all is wise.
With her dental last week we decided to wait, see how she's doing. Am going to call now.

Re: 1/20 Spacey not happy AMPS=282, +2=262

Ella, How rapid is her breathing? Can you count her respiration rate? You count the number of breaths for 15 seconds (in and out once is one breath), and then multiply by 4.

Is something she has been doing often recently? Have you checked for ketones today?

Respiration rate = 60 pm (but was already bit slower than before)
Ketone testing = I wish :YMSIGH:

Trying it in a couple of minutes when I'm testing her +3

And yes... she has had that fast breathing often. Not every day though

Re: 1/20 Spacey not happy AMPS=282, +2=262

At rest it should be no more than about 35-40. Can you get her to a vet? Don't want to wait to get care with a breathing issue like this. I would go right now if possible.

Re: 1/20 Spacey not happy AMPS=282, +2=262, +3=192

Going to the vet to get some antibiotics for her. She will get a treatment for 10 days, cause she probably has a bladder infection for a while now.

Will ask about her breathing.

Ketones=0 (tested in blood).

Resp. rate now = 28

Re: 1/20 Spacey not happy AMPS=282, +2=262, +3=192

Please make sure that a UTI is properly diagnosed via a cystocentesis urine draw (needle draw) with a Culture and Sensitivity to determine the proper ABs if there is actually an infection. Sterile Cystitis can cause the same elimination problems and is much more common than actual infection.

More information about the difference on Dr. Lisa's Urinary Tract Health page.

Sending lots of positive vines to Spacey!

Re: 1/20 Spacey not happy AMPS=282, +2=262, +3=192

Spacey is on a NSAID for her arthritis in her hind legs for a couple of months now. That combined with a large water intake makes me believe that it's not a sterile infection. I can't believe that a sterile infection last that long when one is already on painkillers and lot of fluids.
Oh... btw: she has her urine troubles about 1 1/2 month now. She uses the painkillers for 2 months now.

She had that urine test last week with her dental (needle in bladder thingy). No C&S has been done. But considering it all I'm going with the AB's.

The tech couldn't tell me a lot about the breathing. She thought that it could indicate fever. And considering her watery eyes, that seems probable.
She want's me to keep an eye on that. The vet wasn't available when I was there.
Right now: we think all has to do with that infection of hers and hope that she will feel better after that AB-treatment.

At the moment she is sleeping and breathing normally.

What NSAID is she on?

Sorry I can't offer you any advice. I just wanted to send some get better vines for Spacey. Hope she starts to feel better and the AB's help with whatever is going on with her. Anxious to see how this thread goes for the day.

Re: 1/20 Spacey not happy AMPS=282, +2=262, +3=192

Ah, yes, I know Metacam, my civie with cancer gets it daily, has for 6 months.

Has she had a full blood panel since starting Metacam? I'm asking because in the US, oral Metacam (the kind I give to Azrael for pain management) has not been approved for treatment of arthritis, although it is approved for it in the EU.

I don't want to scare you, but Metacam has been known to cause some adverse side affects (that I was aware of when I began using it for my own cat) in the kidneys. Latte (of Carolyn and Latte) is one of the cats that has had adverse side affect from it.

ETA: if you haven't already, you might want to have Spacey's kidney values tested very soon if they haven't been recently?

I can't offer advise, but I am sending feel better vines to Spacey. She is so cute.

Re: 1/20 Spacey not happy AMPS=282, +2=262, +3=192

Thanks for all the positive vines/vibes and so on. ;-)

@ Heather:
Yep. She first got Metacam. Then after a couple of weeks she had a whole blood work done. Due to bw diabetes was found/diagnosed. Every other thing was alright. I especially looked at her kidney values, cause I lost Stickey on chronic renal failure. Have no idea how it is now though.
I'm giving since a week or so Glucosamine special complex. When that kicks in a bit I'm trying to lower the Metacam dosage.
But I guess I'm holding that of till after the AB. Anyhow, I'm trying to get her of Metacam, but slowly.

@ everyone:
Yes, Spacey is cute. Thanks. :mrgreen:
But don't tell her that. She is already bit arrogant. :lol:

Re: 1/20 Spacey not happy AMPS=282, +2=262, +3=192, +6=167

Good :smile: I'm glad you're keeping an eye on her kidney values.

How was the arthritis diagnosed? was it by how she acts/moves or by x-ray?

What do you mean by moving? :?
She doesn't. :cry:
1 meter forward and puff, down she went. And again: 1 m and down, and again and.. well you get the picture.
And last week with her dental I also had a x-ray made. She was under anyway. So, good opportunity.
And I saw the pictures. Even I could see something is very wrong. :sad:

I hope the glucosamine will help with that so I can give less Metacam. Maybe even none. But I'm sure that'll take a couple of months. Meanwhile I just have to keep my eyes peeled.

Re: 1/20 Spacey not happy AMPS=282, +2=262, +3=192, +6=167

I was currious because a lot of diabetic cats also suffer from neuropathy, which can look like arthritis.

Re: 1/20 Spacey not happy AMPS=282, +2=262, +3=192, +6=167

(((Ella and Spacey))) sending your healing vines and good vibes. I hope Spacey gets to feeling better soon.

I started her AB. She needs to swallow 2 very tiny pills. I think I've got 1 into her. The other one is still in the food she wont touch now.. Whaaa... that's going to be another challenge.
