Posting a bit earlier today. It seems Im behind almost everyone in time zone so by the time I post everyone else seems to be way into the day. Im in PST. I increased dose on 1/18 pm so I have a few more days before I can do the curve again. Im usually doing 4 tests per day, sometimes 5. Not as many as I see a lot of other people doing them. I do one before AMPS, one to two more, then one before PMPS, then one more. When is the best time to test between AMPS and PMPS?

Good news is I weighed Karamelle this morning before breakfast and shes gained 4 oz!!

Hey Jo,

I like to get a +1 or +2 to see which way he is headed for the cycle. If his numbers are decreasing after preshot, I know I have to watch him closer than if he isn't. His injection isn't what is influencing this number yet. I also like to get a +6 because that is often when his nadirs (lowest point) are. They can change when they show up and can be a range of times instead of precisely at +6. I also try to get a +10 in am cycle. PM cycle, regardless of when I'm falling asleep, I usually get a reading before I close my eyes.

Getting data on Karamelle will help you determine when her onset is and where the nadirs are. Every cat is different and your cat may not be predictable. As you get more test and familiar with the disease, you will be able to recognize her patterns too.

It all depends on where my cat's numbers are for the day. If he is lower, I monitor very closely. When he is high, I don't. My cat doesn't really bounce anymore. Thankfully, he doesn't have extreme highs or lows anymore. Recent high numbers are from a topical steriod a vet applied.

You don't have to wait for day 7 for a curve if you want to do one a couple days earlier. You just want to make sure the depot is established. Picking a non bounce day for a curve is the tricky part.

Mixing up those tests during the day is a good idea. Hopefully with those random spot checks you'll get a better idea when she tends to nadir. At which point you can test closer to then. Some earlier, some later. We want to know how low the dose is taking kitty. Although +6 is the typical nadir, a lot of cats like to be different!

Thanks. Looking at other peoples tests i sort of saw that +6 was around the time it was the lowest (nadir) although I see they do fluctuate a lot. I tested again at +5.5 and it was 231, one of her lower numbers. Im going to test again in a few minutes. That would be +8.25.

Thank you this helps. I guess, I'll just experiment with different test times and see how it goes. I did a +5.5 and it was one of her lower numbers. I dont think shes at the point of watching super closely yet, but as i start to increase the dose, I expect to have to test more often.

I didn't understand the disease or even the numbers when he got diagnosed. I had a libre on him. Therefore, I could just look at my phone for his numbers. When they kept failing or proving to be unreliable, I moved to handheld. I continued to test often because I needed those puzzle pieces to understand what was happening with him.

I test less now and a lot of that has to do with him being mainly flat most days. That took 4 months though. I also knew it may never be a possibility with him. Some cats just don't stabilize. To my shock, when he hit 4 units, he really stabilized, minus a few hiccups.
