Spent yesterday trying to figure out why Alex is constantly howling at the moon. Examining almost every move he made because It was a very slow day at work. Did he seem to be sick? Was he hurting? Why is he so antsy? What could possibly explain the high numbers? I read and read and watched him. But there was nothing to watch yesterday. He was very quiet all afternoon. I brought in more urine to the vet to see if he had an 'infection' and what he still does show is blood in his urine which could be from cystitis (which is totally inconsistent with Alex's symptoms ...he has no problems peeing at will wherever and whenever. No little drops come out of him.) Or Maybe from a tiny kidney stone that has been there for a while. The surgery is extreme and dangerous-even read that in Dr. Lisa-and Alex has too many health problems to even consider it; could be cancer...which I feel in my heart it isn't. Jackson has it too and they have both had it for a long time and I think they would both be pretty sick by now (knock wood they aren't and I read that it sort of rare in cats), and I also read that often you just never find out what is causing blood to show up in urine. And on and on.

Then I thought..could his feeding schedule(or lack of a good one) have anything to do with his bg's? I really don't know what I'm doing with that. Maybe I'm causing the high numbers because I'm feeding him too much at the wrong times....like meal time and when I test him. That couldn't be right?

There must be some reason and I'm trying to get to the bottom of this....

Alex is fine. He is pacing the kitchen for more food(after having over a can of FF). If stress is a factor in all of this I don't know what to do, because it seems as if he stresses himself out. He is driven by food and when he doesn't have it, he goes nuts.

    Anyway, happy caturday everyone!

Great numbers for Alex so far! Caryl, you talked about food... left me curious what feeding schedule you use.

I know that when Kitty doesn't get his Early Snack, his numbers show it.

That urine issue is perplexing, isn't it? I hope it resolves soon for you.

    I don't have a schedule really..don't shoot me!!!

His two meals and snacks at test times....I know I should have a better
plan than that but I'm not sure how to do it based on his insulin
yeah the urine thing sure IS perplexing..esp since both of my cats have the
    exact same thing

    Nice numbers today Caryl

I can tell u one of the best times I have learned from the others is the +9 snack will do a kitty good! Some do it at +8, it's a lot of trial and error, experimenting with the right hour around there and portion.

u can always start by noting snack times in ur SS to get an idea of how its going.

Glad to see ur condo open for business today,
    take care :)

Catitude is NEVER a problem for Alex ...if snarky-ness is catitude. Well, I guess it's HIS catitude :D

Thanks , he's already bouncing around lol

What a great day for Alex!

"what exactly is breakthrough and why does it happen?"

Breakthrough is when you finally reach that dose where the numbers start coming down..
Look at Pepper's SS (7/18/08).. That's breakthrough!.. Now, we have fingers and paws crossed that Mr L will start panicking less and the numbers will level off without too much of a bounce. Takes time...

Today was such a purrrfect day for Alex!
Look forward to seeing more days like today..

Your doing a great job Caryl!
