Good morning Lantus Land!

We slept in today :) Marco is very glad to be visiting his friends in Lantus Land and meeting some newbies and their beans!

Marco was diagnosed May of 2009 - we had a vet who basically gave Marco a death sentence! I cried for days and looked at my beautiful furkid thinking these were his last days with me. DBF on the other hand was researching online and found this fabulous site! He said "these people here are saying it isn't a death sentence" I was skeptical. This is an online forum, with people who I don't know. Could I trust them?

One morning I woke up earlier than anyone in the house, I sat down with Marco and we talked, I read the previous threads and then decided I had to at least try. What could it hurt. I was planning on PTS anyhow - so what could posting on here hurt? The responses we got back were amazing and SO encouraging. I couldn't believe it. I was overwhelmed with emotions and information. I took in as much as I could, I read and re-read. Since I hadn't started treatment the first thing I did was change his food. Over the weekend he perked up so much just from that change. We got the next available appointment for another local vet who then referred us to an IM vet who has experience with FD.

Marco received his first shot on June 12th and then next morning when his numbers were normal - I freaked! I was scared, and I didn't want to shoot him again. The ladies here talked me through everything and explained to me how the insulin worked, after much talking into and his numbers when back up into the yellers (yes I should have shot before - looking back I kick myself in the butt) I shot. From then on I never questioned these ladies. I just said ok, took a deep breathe and then shot. Marco was stalked and he was annoyed that I'd poke him to make sure he was alive  Our bond over these months grew tremendously and he become more and more like his old self. Even getting into trouble.

On September 13th Marco had his last shot. :-D He gets into trouble now bullying the other male civvie, he loves to steal the Drooler's toys even if I buy him his own! When Marco feels like being the Droolers friend they play soccer together!! He loves to lounge in bed every day all day and he now sleeps with me every night (just like he used to before he got sick)!!! He loves to talk early in the morning and every evening when I get home from work. On occasion he still goes to his testing site to get his treats. Since there is still dry food in the house (because of my other stubborn furkids) he likes to dart at them grab a kibble and run! It is funny but he knows that he isn't allowed to have it, I guess he just can't resist the temptation sometimes.

Overall his numbers are still very good and he loves life at the Falls!

Thank you so much FDMB for helping us so much!! All the countless hours yall spend is so very very appreciated. We love every one of you here especially Team J & Co. Couldn't have done it with out you. Our vets now use Marco as their poster child for FD. He was their first patient to go OTJ. We even get phone calls about home testing!

Msg to the Newbies: Patience is key! Try to stay as consistent as possible with shot times. Be confident, listen, and remember we were all where you are now. Always remember that you are in control. You have your meter, and you have the yummy yummy hc juices... you'll be fine. Treat the cat, not the numbers. Most importantly - ECID every cat is different. Post daily, and don't forget your cawfee ;)
