wheezer was diagnosed 12/28/05. started on NPH and was increased weekly by 1u according to ketostix. numbers always up there.was on hills WD for struvite crystals. on 2/22/06 we started him on lo carb wet and he hypoed. found this site and was suggested to try BCP PZI. on 2/24 we started BCP PZI at 1u and that was too much. we started decreasing to where he was at SID dosing. toyed wit OTJ all of march and finally made it in April. june, july august were slowly going up and as of sept started on insulin again. had to reorder cause I gave mine to a friend who threw it away when they got theirs LOL. no names here.
ended up wheezer had very bad tooth infection and bleeding teeth.
he toyed with OTJ on a few occ after dental but it was never to happen. we even tried PZI vet at QID. finally switched to lev on 7/20/07
he has been up and down the dosecrease ladder ever since. as high as .8 and as low as 0.05
on 5/18/09 we tried dosing TID with and up and down the ladder again .3 - 0.05. mostly 0.05 with an occ .1 to bring down the bounce. we would do great for awhile (blue and lo greens)and then BAM yellows.
on 1/13/10 we went back to bid dosing of 0.05u and scenerio is the same. we do good for a while and BAM yellow again.
any other cat that got down to 0.05u would have been OTJ by now.
wheezer is a microdose kitty and 1/2 gtt will drop him like a rock. he is also a food spiker so when we can, we shoot first and depending on number, wil l try and wait at least 3 hours before we feed. this is only done on my days off. work days is about an hour wait
that's my story and I am sticking to it.
must thank jojo for sticking with me and trying to figure out this bad boy

Dian, you are such a great Mama bean for dealing so well with Wheezer's very 'particular' dosing needs... I guess that is just what happens when you love your boy so much. Even if he is a 'bad boy', that Wheezer. Always love seeing his pic.

Glad he is still doing so well.

"that's my story and I am sticking to it." lol!!

What an amazing story! He does so well on soooo little.
So glad that you are here Dian and all that you do for all the kitties!

i've been watching your progress with wheezer since i came to the fdmb. i have to hand it to you dian, your dedication and commitment to your little guy is something else! thanks for sharing wheezer's story...

Amazing....just Amazing!! :YMHUG:
You have so much patience and have done such a wonderful job in dealing with your Wheezer....
special Bean for a special kitty!

Nice update on a tough little kitty....I never knew Wheezer's story.....so glad to read it. He sure is a tough one...great job with him, Dian!

LOL to those that says she has patience, guess you don't know of the dents in her walls over by where she tests the wheez. :P no, really you are amazing there dian, he is one of the most difficult (read frustrating) cats ever to come to board. but most micro-dose cats are. he is just the supreme example. 0.05 units, just crazy that he can't go w/o insulin one would think.
what can i say? we've tried everything in the world one could ever try for dosing, feeding, timing, etc. etc. i've prolly looked at his SS more than any other cat's over the years. and the basic premise that we have been working with, 'pound' him down until his pancreas sputters and then try to back off and let him try to get to flying solo, just has to be continued. maybe one day that pancreas will have enough momentum to do it. whenever you think you are at a good point to try no insulin, try it. maybe he'll surprise ya. and if not, no biggie just go back to where ya were.
just even if he never gets back to falls, please remember that your work has taken the diabetes out of his health picture. his numbers, although not what you want, are FINE. there are people that would kill for those numbers. plus i think Camp Dian has proven that if a cat has any chance of getting OTJ it will happen in your capable hands (and they will have a nice trim figure too, lol).

you gets a thumbs up: :thumbup and a halo! o:-) and a hug: :YMHUG: and you have the best ballz of steel: fll_moon fll_moon (okay i know is suppose to be the moon but it looks like BOS to me) oh and a cuppa cawfee: ~O) and a whoohoo new computer: laptop_smiley okay okay better stop having fun with new smileys... off i go to next condo, gots lots of places to go cats to see. (hope you have nice pics of the skin lesions in the BOYZ condo so i can see it. did you get my FB PM about other possibilities of what it could be? oops, don't answer that in wheez's conod, i'll see you at boyz condo).

Dian,

Little wheezer is so lucky to have you as his bean. You sure have been on a rollar coaster ride, but you stuck with him all the way. I remember you from this board when I joined. Its nice to hear his whole story. You've got one incredable kitty there.

Poor Wheezie....I think the problem is that he see all these other diabetics come and go. He's scared that if he goes OTJ, you'll send him away.

Nice to see a Wheezer update, and very good of him to share you so you can spread your wealth of FD treatment knowledge to other kitties that desperately need it.
