Good evening,

after a bouncing night Binie saw some more blue numbers today. She is a bit sleepy and needs a bit encouragemeht to eat but I think she is on a good way to fight her infection.

I hope tomorrow I get the urine test results. I think we already know that the antibiotics based on the last urine test help. Now I am curious to see, if it is the same three germs. Since december I have her high doses of d-mannose every day to at least fight the e-coli. I wonder if it did anything.

Hope everyone has a relaxed Sunday! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi, Heike, I’m glad Binie came down to some blue numbers today and hope she has a safe surf overnight tonight.

Good luck with the urine test results tomorrow. I hope the results are what you are hoping for:cat:

You’ve done a wonderful job managing all of the difficult situations going on in the past month plus all the testing.
You’re doing such a great job.

I hope you both have a calm and safe night and look forward to hearing your news tomorrow.:bighug::cat::bighug:

Hi Staci, thank you so much for checking on us! Seems like Binie is bouncing tonight. I don't really know, what I should hope for regarding the urine test. I think I am happy if there is not a new germ inside, we have to fight.

Thank you so much for cheering for us! 80 percent of your positive feedback is for Binie, because she is really a good girl letting me poke. And thank you for always being such a great teacher for us! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I hope you have a calm night in your bed - or if Ivy decides to make some action I hope she rewards you with many cuddles and biscuits! :bighug::kiss::bighug:

Heike, Jude has problems with UTIs also, and I've read that d-mannose is good for the bladder, so I've been giving him 1/8 tsp of d-mannose daily. I'm curious: what dose do you give Binie?

Hi Marielle, I am sorry Jude has to deal with UTI too. After her last UTI in August I gave Binie in the morning and evening each 250 mg d-mannose to prevent another one. Seems this was not enough because in December the urine test showed that three germs have been back, also e-coli which is sensitive on d-mannose. So I upped her dose to 500 mg in the morning and 500 mg at night. Do you know which germ was responsible for his UTI? d-mannose works for e-coli but studys show it's unclear if it's working for other germs too. I also give her freeze dried cranberry powder but I don't know if that did anything. At least it was not enough to prevent another UTI.

Hope you have a safe and calm Sunday! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I don't know the name of the bacteria that Jude had, but I'm going to ask the vet (he took the extra step to identify it). If it wasn't e-coli, then I don't know if the d-mannose is doing much good (although I don't think it can hurt Jude). I'm giving Jude 1/8 tsp per day, and if my calculations are correct, I believe that 250 mg converts to 1/16 tsp, and you said you were giving that 2x a day, so I think what I'm giving him is equivalent to that. By the way, have you tried corn silk extract? I used to give that to Jude, but the supplier I was using ran out of stock, so I stopped. I've heard it is also good for the bladder.

E-coli is a gram negative bacteria and I understood that there are no studys which prove, that d-mannose also works for other gram negative germs but it could be. But as you said: it will not hurt and as e.coli is very common for bladder infection, it is a good idea to give it. I understood that the concentration of d-mannose in each product can vary, so it's difficult to say how much of a tsp. equals 500 mg for you.

I've never heard about corn silk extract but the short read was very promising! Thank you! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I heard about the corn silk extract on a Facebook Feline Lower UT group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/1183253091779664/search/?q=cornsilk extract). Here is the brand they recommend: https://www.iherb.com/pr/nature-s-a...pdzLtkMfp-ROAd6mB4rDvr8jVWRmrMacaAsHZEALw_wcB. I see you are in Germany, so this information might not be that helpful since this online store is in the US, but be sure to get the alcohol-free formulation, if you decide to give it a try. It's a liquid, and it definitely has a taste that Jude is not fond of it (I used to mix it in his food).

Oh, this group sounds very interesting Marielle, thank you! Can you give me the name of the group, as I was not able to find it through the search? Thank you also for the recommendation. They do ship to Germany but I will try to see if I find a local store. I am just not so sure, if she takes something with a bad taste...

Here's the group link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1183253091779664. The group is called Feline Lower Urinary Tract. My understanding is that it (the cornsilk extract) helps with inflammation. Good luck!

You’ve got this Heike! You’re doing the best job taking care of sweet and sometimes spicy Binie:kiss:
Hoping you both have a great sleep and a calm cycle.
Ivy and I send you back big hugs :bighug::bighug::bighug:

15 cycles on this dose, and nothing under 150. I think you can increase again. She'll looking better, but I want better still and less sugar in her urine for the bacteria to love.

1 tsp = 15 ml, so you want about 2 ml for 1/8 tsp.

Thank you so much for checking on us Wendy! :bighug::bighug::bighug: You are right, I also like to see her lower. I increased tonight.

A tsp (teaspoon ) is 5ml. A Tbsp (tablespoon) is 15 ml
