So his numbers seem to have improved overall since I've been doing TR this past month. However, it looks like there is a pattern of his numbers getting really good the day after a dose increase, and then creeping back up after that.

I'm taking him in tomorrow for a test for acromegaly and IAA. Is there anything else I should mention to the vet?

And I'm checking more numbers today before another increase, as advised.

But then there are days like the 23rd when he drops and then goes up and then drops again. I'm paranoid about missing some random low time.

How much LC did he eat at +5.5. Feed him another spoon now.

    Which Weruva variant is it?

We normally say hold doses with green nadirs for 10 cycles. He will bounce and we want to see if we gives us green again after he clears the bounce.

Half a can??! Feed him just a spoon or two to keep him surfing. We don't want him getting too full to eat later in the cycle.

Usually he just licks the juice off and doesn't eat the Weruva. I was trying it this week, and I didn't think he liked it. He's licking the Lamb Burgerini now.

He doesn't seem to have any trouble eating. :). But I'll do that from now on to surf.

This link gives you the crab% of various foods:
    https://catinfo.org/chart/index.php

It is useful to know what % of carbs you have. Sometimes you need slight higher carbs within the LC category like 8-10%...

71 and 82 is flat if you consider meter variance. But he might start heading up once he is past his nadir.

You can test again in an hour without feeding and see if he dips or goes up.

What is his normal feeding schedule?

He gets chicken treats before his BG tests, a can of FF pate in the morning and afternoon, and a little bit of Dr Elsey's kibble, like a quarter cup, to graze on during the day. He gets more pate whenever he still seems hungry, or lately the Weruva.

I am stunned. He has green maybe twice, and they were sudden in an emergency sort of way. This is the first surfing of green I've done. Still a little freaked that I'm not pouring maple syrup down him right now.

Did you feed him anything, Amy? 55 is still a safe number...getting close to the below 50 but it's also late in the cycle. Give some LC and check again in 30.

I'll come back for your next test. If he is below 50 don't worry. As long as you have higher carb foods and/or syrup, we can get him up if need be.
Did I read that you also let him graze on kibble? If so, you may want to make a comment on your spreadsheet as to when he is eating the kibble during this green cycle as it would also have an influence on his numbers. So that might be good info to know for next time.

I'd also recommend making a note in the remarks column of his spreadsheet on how much you fed him and what % carbs the food was. You'll be glad to have that info to refer back on (as will we!) when Tibby sees more greens.

One last question/thought, you're doing TR and Tibby is getting some kibble. I know to do TR a cat is supposed to be only on wet food. My understanding is it is a requirement. I presume you know that and/or someone told you it was okay to do it with kibble in the picture. But mentioning it just in case!

I do have a hypo kit ready. But what if I weren't here? This is fortunately happening on a day I can teach from home.

At this point, I'm not sure which foods I fed him when. It was all Weruva, but now I know they are all different percentages.

People told me about the kibble, but I gave it to him anyway out of habit a few times and then kept on because he likes to have a little after his wet food, and a little during the day. I also keep thinking I'm going to switch back to SLGS at some point anyway, though I haven't yet.

I understand the concern about not being home! I am mainly working from home right now but at some point I'll be back in the office. People generally adjust their shot times so they can get at least a couple of tests in before work, to get an idea of where the cycle is going and then put food in the auto feeder with more carbs if needed. Some people have slightly lowered the dose they give their cat and/or switched to SLGS. First and foremost, Tibby needs to be safe and you need to feel comfortable that she will remain safe when you're at work.

Now he's at 66. It was more like 45 minutes.

If this were SLGS, I think I would be lowering the dose, but would it be by .25? I've been raising it by .5 lately, but is that just with TR.

He is rising maybe, just a bit, that's good! Nice surf. I'd withhold food and check him @+10, so another 45, to be sure he is staying up on his own.

If you were doing SLGS, yes you'd earn a reduction (reductions earned below 90). Normally with SLGS doses are increased and decreased by .25u. But with higher doses, perhaps earning reductions and taking increases is .5u even with SLGS. Not sure. A good question better answered by @Wendy&Neko

His +10 was 69. Wow. So I am emotionally drained, but in a kind of good way. But considering he started off at 270, that was a huge drop. I wouldn't have thought anything of going off to work and him dropping into the green like that. If I had +2 to give me a hint, that would be great, but our school has already gone remote once because we didn't have enough staff, and there have been some close calls since then, too. It's a very dicey year for calling in with a sick cat. I'm really on the fence about TR vs SLGS. I do have a February break, so maybe I can make it to that.

Seeing the greens today is amazing! Pause to enjoy this moment:D:bighug:. I'm so happy for both of you.

There was the drop from 270 - 128. It would be great if we knew what happened in between. After that, Tibby's numbers looked closer to a regular Lantus cycle. If you can get in the habit of getting a +2 every day, especially if Tibby is going to start giving you more greens, it could be extremely helpful to you in figuring out which way his numbers are heading. For most cats, if a +2 is higher than preshot, then numbers will likely stay higher for that cycle. If the +2 is around the same as the preshot, you'll most likely see a typical lantus curve with a gentle dip. If the +2 is lower, then it is likely to be a more active cycle and you'll want to monitor more...or leave out higher carb food if you have to go to work.

People here can help with advice on keeping Tibby safe when it comes time for you to be back in the classroom full time.

    A green preshot! Nice:D.
With TR, it is safe to shoot anything 50 and above. Do you have lots of test strips, MC & HC foods, syrup and are you able to stay up and monitor? If you decide to shoot, you would feed his regular meal and get a +1.
I can't promise that I can stay with you throughout the cycle, though.

I just don't feel comfortable taking it so far. The poor guys ears are already sore, and it just seems so dicey. Plus, I have to work tomorrow. I think it's back to SLGS for a while. Skip the dose or maybe give a reduced dose?

What do you feel comfortable with? Normally @tiffmaxee or @Wendy&Neko could help but they aren't online.
I've shot a 50% dose before when I didn't feel comfortable shooting a full. that might be better for Tibby than skipping altogether...just my 2 cents.
Keep in mind you'll still need to do some monitoring. Depot could still be in play.

Half makes sense. Isn't a zero dose dicey somehow? And I think I'll switch my Spreadsheet to SPGS, and reduce his dose tomorrow morning to 6.75. Does that make sense?

A zero dose will really wreak havoc on the depot and given that Tibby just saw some good numbers...and plus I'm thinking about ketones from missing a shot which will impact his numbers.
Again, keep in mind you may not see the effects of a half dose right away.
Darn it,Tibby. It's too bad he hasn't bounced yet.

I don't think this has ever happened, so that's why I'm so freaked. Totally new territory. And now his shot is also 30 minutes later than usual. Oh well. I did a half dose, and he's chomping away. I'll definitely try TR again when I can actually monitor if he gets this low. Thank you so much. I'll update again later when I check him.

You did great today.:bighug: I know it's not easy when in new territory. The first time I saw a green number I was pouring syrup down butters' throat and opening cans of hc for her!

Even though you shot a reduced dose, you still shot green and so congrats on that! Also, I'd still get a +1 because we don't know when the effects of the reduction will actually happen..

Oh, absolutely. And I don't know if you saw, but I did a 911 earlier today here. I'll get the +1 and maybe another before bed. I still have to prep for tomorrow anyway.

He's had some pate and some kibble, so he seems happy. But he is definitely tired of me poking him in the ear.

I imagine if someone was poking my ear continuously I'd get a little tired of it too. Glad he is happy. I think they always feel better when they are in lower numbers too. Butters' mood changes dramatically when her numbers go up:rolleyes:.

The higher numbers you see will be the combination of the bounce from the green, plus the reduced dose tonight. The good thing is the reduced dose tonight will also drain the depot, so he should be pretty safe tomorrow.

As for dose tomorrow, if you are following SLGS (or TR) you reduce by the same amount you increase. That would be 0.5 units. If you find it's too big a reduction for Tibby, you can increase back up by 0.25 units.
