As you know if you have read my posts for the last couple of days, I have two diabetic cats -- Domino and Puff. Someone suggested that I post a condo for each of them, but I find it easier to track only one. Is this OK?

Both cats are well this morning.

Domino has continued his high numbers after a time in green on 1/26. This seems to be a pattern with him -- come down to nice green numbers (make mommy wonder if she should give a full dose) and then pop back up to red and pink numbers for a couple of days before coming back down to green and starting the process over again.

Puff is still holding in the pinks and yellows. I plan to up his insulin tomorrow from 1.25 to 1.5. Does this sound right?

I do plan on doing a curve for both kitties this weekend.

Good morning!!
one thread for both is fine! Whatever works for u and is easiest is good enough!

one of the things you will want to keep in mind is patience.
So u want to be careful not to dose hop too much. Lantus likes consistency, and works best like that.
For Puff, let's see what the experienced members suggest ok?
So hang in there - ur doing very good!

Yes, a curve would be really helpful this weekend... for both kitties.

Domino is bouncing from the green numbers and this is normal. When a kitty is diabetic, the body sees the higher BG numbers as 'normal' so when you give insulin and the number drops to green the liver doesn't recognize the new low number as normal and dumps glycogen into the blood which raises the sugar.. raises BG. This is what you are seeing. So basically the kitty's liver has to learn NOT to panic when Domino gets a low number. The more blues and greens Domino gets, the better and the liver will reset to recognize the new (correct) normal BG numbers and stop bouncing (dumping that sugar into the blood.) Just as a short cut, we call this Liver Training School... LTS. So Domino is in LTS now and we hope that liver is a quick study and realizes there is no reason to panic and Domino will be just fine in green numbers, thank you very much.

Some kitties bounce hard (go high) and for longer times... days instead of hours. It just depends on the kitty. As you get further along you should see the recovery time from a bounce get shorter and shorter as well as the numbers not bouncing as high. Patience is important here... that is one of the the toughest things to deal with, but as is said many times on this site... this Sugar dance is a marathon not a sprint.

Puff probably needs more insulin to breakthrough but it would be helpful to have more information from the curve you plan on doing this weekend. Interesting case for this one ... and more data is always a good thing.

Also, welcome to Lantus land, I forgot to say that!

Hi Welcome to lantus land--We all help each other & have amassed the greatest amount of knowledge of FD anywhere!!
Yes, the higher numbers are a rebound from the green ones, they will pass quickly(day or 2)..
Ask questions, read read read, and be patient & consistant and you will succeed with your Fd kitties..

You're off to a great start. The more data you have, the more comfortable you will be with your approach.

When you have a chance, take a look at some other "condos" and spreadsheets. You'll see others have faced similar issues and have similar questions.

Welcome to Lantus Land!
