Logan wasn't very enthusiastic about eating this morning. He doesn't seem to be feeling well. He ate about 3/8 of a can of FF this morning. Around 3:30 am, he ate 1/4 can of food...with some coaxing. I'm hoping he'll feel better today! I guess he will have good days and bad days. The internist said we will leave the tube in for a full two weeks after our last tube feeding so I think we have at least a few more weeks. :( She doesn't want to take it out prematurely. She wants to keep him at his current dose of prednisolone (5mg bid) for a total of two weeks. That will be a week from tomorrow. We have a recheck on 2/8 so we'll keep him there until then. At that point, we'll assess how he's doing and go from there.

ETA: +6, PMPS

He didn't eat much on his own, maybe 3/8 of a can. Hoping it's just a bad day and he'll feel better tomorrow. :(

Come on, Logan, you needs to eat or you'll have to wear the funny shirt longer.

Sorry Logan is not up to eating today.
We all have bad days and good days. Hopefully this one will pass and tomorrow he \will be back running around the house.
Thinking of you guys and sending the healing vines to Logan.

He ate a little better at PMPS - about 1/2 can. He ate another 3/8 can a little while ago, as well. We gave him 1/3 can of a/d through the tube. When I went to clean the tube, I noticed that it looks like it's pulled out somewhat - maybe 1/2 centimeter. I'm on hold with the ER vet (same office as his surgeon/internist) to see if this is normal at this point or if we need to get him as soon as possible. Of course, it's snowing!

Hi Kelly,
Jill asked me to stop into Logan's condo, to try to help with any feeding tube questions. I'm assuming Logan has an e-tube (esophogeal)? Cosmo had one a couple years ago, when he had hepatic lipidosis. He had it for almost 2 months, and the last two weeks, we didn't use it at all. We went in weekly for bandage changes, and for the vet to make sure the tube was still correctly placed. I think that if Logan had pulled it out, he would be uncomfortable. However, hopefully someone can take a look tomorrow, if you didn't get him in today.

As for how much he's eating... do you know the caloric intake? Dr Lisa has a calorie formula (using ideal weight) to figure out how many calories a cat should have every day. Saying 1/2 can and 3/8 can doesn't really say much, b/c of can size (3 oz cans? 5.5oz cans?) and formula. A can of FF can be anywhere from 70-90 calories, while a 5.5 oz can of Wellness is over 200 calories. You may want to keep track of his caloric intake for the next two weeks to make sure he's eating enough on his own to maintain his weight.

Please PM me if you have any questions. I come to the board every day, but I certainly don't get a chance to visit all the condos!

Hi Kelly. I was also asked by Jill to come take a look at your feeding tube questions for Logan because Max also had an e-tube in with much success. I see that you've gotten some great info from Cyn already so I thought I would just let you know that I am here if you need any assistance. Sorry I wasn't on last night to help you out - my DH decided he wanted to play on the computer so I felt obligated to let him.

I hope that you were able to get the tube checked out last night - or at the very least this morning. If the tube did pull out slightly, it will be uncomfortable for Logan. This will cause him to not want to eat. As Cyn told you, it's imperative to know the calorie intake for Logan while the tube is in. You want to make sure he is getting the adequate amount of calories for his size.

Please feel free to PM me if you have any questions. Cyn and I are both very experienced with e-tubes and can help you with pretty much any questions you may have.
