Good Morning
5th cycle 5.75
Well I am not surprised we started the day pretty high, but at least it was shy of red.
Morning recap since I stayed home a bit longer.
+1 326
+2 297

Looks like Max is on the move and these numbers are with 1/2 can FF in him.
Maybe +6 will be another interesting number. Looks like this dose is doing something, finally.

WCR: His usual lounging around self. I have not been able to get a ketone check in a few days. He is being litter box challeneged. I have read everything there is to read and I watched Max this morning "mark" the food mat in the kitchen, by rubbing his paws back and forth like he would in a litter box, turn around and pee right on it. This is stressing me out more than the diabetes at this point. And cats don't "make" where their food is? Someone better tell Max that.
Another day to watch.

Isn't it always cold in Quebec? :lol: It's ok, it's cold here too.

my civvie does that "scratchin at the floor in food area" but she's too much of a good girl to do her business there. Dunno know why she does it, maybe her way of cleaning up after meal time?

I hope u get some thoughts on that - it is worrisome, and seeing as nothing showed up in the tests u had, I'm stumped too.

When does DPS arrive?!!! Tell her to hurry it up!! I wanna see a +3!!!!!! :lol:

Hey Randi...did you say "food mat"? Have you tried getting rid of it? Paper towels or
a newspaper under the food might be the way to go for now and see if the behavior stops....
I mean, there might be something in that mat that smells attractive to Max. Just a thought...I would eliminate that
to begin with...

hmmm interesting Pat...I use paper towel now, cuz of the plastic issue,,,

I do know some placemat - especially plastic have a very toxic smell to them, any chance u have those Randi?

I don't think I'm much help on inappropriate elimination, since I have been unable to solve Bear's problem. I agree with removing the food mat. Just put the dish on a hard tray, or maybe a piece of aluminum foil, if you need something underneath the dish. You could also try moving the food and water fountain somewhere else, and see if it is the location that is causing the problem, or the presence of food and water. Have you changed your type/scent/texture of kitty litter lately? Maybe he doesn't like the feel or smell of his litter. If I see Bear hanging around one of his problem spots (which is pretty much my entire bedroom floor now) I snatch him up and put him in the litter box before he can do something bad, just to remind him where he is supposed to go. Have you changed his food? Sometimes my cats try to bury their food by scratching in the area. Maybe the scratching motion is just triggering a reflex in him to urinate.

Edited to add: Is he just doing a little spray to mark, or is he doing a big puddle?

Max's numbers are coming down nicely this morning!

Have you been using anything to neutralize the urine? I wonder if there's still some residual odor that Max can smell.

I sprayed the are with that Miracle, Oxy, get the urine away spray and left instrusctions for the kichen floor which is ceramic, washed with vinegar.

I move the food to another area of the kitchen this morning after his adventure. I did not handle the water fountain and I don't have another place with a plug. I'm going to take it away and go back to water bowls for now.

Nope, not a little spray, full out pee as if he was in the litter. I am going to pick up another small box and keep around the kitchen in case I see him do it again. I don't want to acrry him around the house.
The mat has been removed, it was one of those thin wooly kitchen mats so no plastic smell.
I'll stock up on the paper towels and put them under the plates. No change in the food, might be the litter again. I used to use the cat attract but it is very expensive and cannot get it here in Quebec. Now it is the non-scented, extra hard clumping tidy cat, which I have used before.
The funny thing is that there is nothing on the floor by the water fountain.
Big Sigh.

Pink, yellow,blue.. All within 3 hours. Almost 100 drop/hour. This dose is bringing him down.
Will we see green at +6? This will be good to keep surfing lower, maybe his liver will start to get used to it.

Glad to see you are already seeing some blue in Max's cycle today. Hopefully you will still see some green too.

if Max were my cat and I was around to monitor and had a possible breakthru with numbers, I would do a +5.

I'm pretty sure he did. DPS usually feeds him or make sure he has food every 3 hours.
He did not come to the kitchen though, gee I wonder why. so the food is brought to him.
I think I am gong to have to retrain him this weekend to come for food and eat in the kitchen.
Maybe he is forgetting meal time is suppposed to be there and that is why he thinks it's his LB now.
Food is taken away at +10 to get a better PMPS #.

Oh and BTW, you call testing every hour, spot checks?? I guess coming from you, ya, that would be right!!

Well after an amazing day, full of lots of testing, looks like Max had a PMPS bounce.
Funny that this number did not surprise me but the nice 311 at +2 did.

This looks good to me, how nice he is coming back down. Will get another check before bed.

Although the day was amazing BG wise, IMHO, the pee issue is not going away.
Food and water have been rearranged on the kitche, floors scrubbed with vinegar and that cat miracle stuff. I gave him his shot, brought him to the kitchen to eat then I went upstairs for a minute.
When I came back to the kitchen he was sitting where the fountain was and urine all over the kitchen floor. It was not a matter of control. I watched him purposely walk to that spot.
Any other brainstorms would be great. I have read all the internet has to offer.

Hey, Max is coming down nicely at +2.

I've got an idea, a little one I just thought of, while reading your post...get rid of the water fountain for now.
I know, it's prob really cool and funky and full of serenity, but try that, couldn't hurt.

Will u be up for couple more spotchecks tonight before bedtime?

The water fountain was taken away and a bowl was put down.
The food is in s different place as well.
He was searching all over for it. When we out it back dowin in another place he made a bee line for it to drink. I put a litter box in the kitchen, in a different place where he was peeing on the floor and right now he is lying in it like it was a bed.
It is brand new clean!!

What is that. It's like he doesn't know that its a litter box. I also wanted to get ketone test.
I guess I should have dipped the stick in the mess on my florr but I was too upset to think.

Max is having a PM cycle similar to the AM. I am waiting to do another check

So I would just like to recap the inappropriate urination issues in case something stands out to someone that I am missing.

1. 3 cats in the house, 4 litter boxes, in different areas of the house, all private, no covers.
2. Litter is extra clumping multi cat, unscented, Tidy Cat
3. urine tested last week and came back negative for infection or bacteria
4. Only wet food is served.
5, Has history in 2006 of bladder stones and crystals, bladder checked in Nov, ultrasound, all good.
6. No changes in the house and all is quiet with the dominant female here (max littermate)
7. No straining at all.
I have read all of Dr. Lisa that Cassandra posted for me and the "do" list is what I do and the "don't" is what I don't.

I don't know what to do or look for at this point.

how was the urine collected... a sterile sample by cystocentesis (needle draw)?
The sterile sample should be tested by C&S (culture and sensitivity) to see if bacteria grows and what AB should be used if there's evidence of bacteria.

Yes Jill, It was taken by needle at the vets office. The cultures was grown, which was a few days. I do not have the report but I have the invoice which says what was done. Should I go and get it and post it. They told me that there was no bacteria or infection.
 
no, you don't have to post it. i was just wondering how they did it because a lot of vets use a free catch sample.
about the only other thing i can think of is to get some "cat attract" to sprinkle on top of the litter you're using now. it's worth a try anyway...
 
Thanks Jill. I had used the cat attract litter back in the summer when he was doing it on my basement carpet and I bought the sprinkles. Litter has run out, I cannot buy it in Montreal and I cannot find the sprinkles in the house now.
The strange thing is that now he is doing it in the kitchen and this morning at the food mat.
Looks like I will have to road trip to Plattsburgh this weekend to get some more.

Would those tests pick up crystals? Are there any other tests to do?
