Well, at least her numbers are still good. Up until around +6, she barely ate since yesterday! Last weekend I noticed her making frequent trips to the litterbox, leaving small spots of urine. On monday, I brought her to the vet. (it had been a year, so i figured we'd go) Tho, it is the WORST experience for both her AND me! She gets soooooooo stressed. She could not stop going (pooping) it was just coming out and she open mouth breathes, with tongue hanging out. So sad! and something I never want to put her through, unless absolutely necessary.
(her blood work was as the vet said, "surprisingly good". BG was 108 and fructosomine was 339! Liver and kidney values "excellent".
He said he could not get a urine test, (as her bladder was empty) but since the fur around her anus was soiled, matted, red, inflamed, etc., (she can't really reach around to clean it at - 17 lbs), and that coupled with her symptoms (frequent small output of urine) made him sure she was suffering from a bladder infection.
he prescribed 2 Baytril once a day. I said didn't feel comfortable putting her on an AB without a C & S. (and i heard some scary things about Baytril.) He said he didn't want to put her thru all that, staying there for hours, waiting for bladder to fill while it was clear to him that she got an infection prob from the feces around the backside. (i noticed she was having a prob back there a few weeks ago, kind of inflamed and dirty, so I tried to clean it and she had a fit and would run from me whenever she saw me. not good when i have testing and shooting to do.) so i let her be.
a different vet last year, put Sasha on Clavamox 62.5mg twice a day for 30 days (for UTI) I don't recall too many problems with that. i crushed the clav in tuna water and she licked it up. I asked if she could take that again. He said it would not be his first choice, it can cause upset stomach, doesn't work as well as Baytril, etc but it was up to me. He said if it were his cat, he'd give it Baytril. So I agreed to the Baytril.
That night i crushed 2 and put in tuna water. she wouldn't go near it. (the pills are big! and it turned the tuna water dark) the next day i got clavamox. But they were 125 mg tablets, so bigger than before too. I tried mixing them in her food, but as soon as she would take a few bites, she would stop and walk away. I was trying to encourage/force feed, soon she would not eat at all. WCF gave me some great suggestions, (some of which were yours!) about using treats. (it didn't occur to me to give her HC treats!)
On Thursday nite, i quartered the pill and put it in soft whiskers treats. Success! Friday morning, same thing, but I could see she was catching on. Friday early evening she ate a small snack and an hour later threw up. Then i tried to give her the pill in a treat, she wouldn't budge. I ended up pilling her by hand, that was the biggest mistake! It was a very bad scene. She was so angry and upset after, she ran off and hid and didn't eat any food overnight. i didn't see her again till this morning when i heard her sort of hacking a little. Eventually, I had to drag her in for her test/shot and again, she refused to eat. I don't know if she was scared or if stomach was upset, but I decided to skip the pills cuz its not worth her not eating and me not being able to give her her shots. Today I just worked on calming her down and regaining her trust.
Happy to say, she ate twice today so far and is snuggled up next to me and seems to have forgotten. but i don't know what to do, cuz she is still going to litter box whenever she wakes up (every 3-4 hours) and leaving small spots.
Is it safe to wait and see if this clears up on its own? I feel bad not giving her AB. But I feel worse giving it right now
Thanks Jojo!!
