Just a quick question, Henri has to go in for an abdominal ultrasound in about a week. I'm going to leave a note for them to put in her chart that there is to 1. be no anesthesia and 2. They are to give her no medication...Insulin included. I have had quite a bit of bad experiences at the vet (and she will be getting this done at the ER vet hospital) where there are lots of miscommunications. It also seems that if you don't know the right questions to ask and you cant predetermine what the vets are thinking or going to do, bad things can happen because they (the vets) assume you know certain things. It's almost like you have to be your own vet with medical knowledge and experience. That being said, in addition to the no anesthesia and no medications, can you al think of anything specific I should ask or have them put in her chart before having her admitted for the abdominal ultrasound?

Oh...and bc of the many miscommunications, I am going to have a note with those 2 things written and attached to the outside of her carrier as well as having them add it in her chart and email me a copy with the info so I can make sure it's there. I have already been given lots of misinformation from this front desk as well as contradictory information from the the different vets that are there. It is slightly comforting to know that the actual vet who is doing the ultrasound, is a specialist who comes into the facility and is not part of the group where I have been dealing with the miscommunications.

My other question is should I be concerned how this might affect her BG reading? She will be waiting in the car with me until they bring her in bc I feel like it will be a lot less stressful for her to be with me than to be sitting in a strange place, in a cage for half the day.

Why is she getting the ultrasound ? Since she’s doing well and eating it doesn’t make sense to me. The cure for hepatic lipidosis is food and gaining back the weight. I’m not a vet but if she seems healthy I would not think it necessary or even helpful.

She also had "torturous vessels" that lead from the gallbladder to the....liver (i think?)

Which they said at the time suggests infection. She wasn't able to finish the oral antibiotics bc of nausea so she ended up getting 2 covenia shots (which i wasn't thrilled about). She also couldn't take the denamarin for the same reason. I started her on milk thistle 4 days ago and tomorrow I start her on SAMe. They are both for liver support and antioxidants which my vet told me can help with the tortuous vessels as well.

So long as this visit isn't going tovhurt her in any way...im ok with it. Id rather pay the money and not be worried something else is going on inside that needs addressing

I wasn’t thinking about money. I was thinking about upsetting her and what you wrote about the ER. None of my cats were ever sedated for an ultrasound. I guess a really difficult cat might need that maybe.

Going to read the link now. They didn't need to sedate her the first time so they shouldn't this time. Im just so used to miscommunications and I want to ensure they don't and not rely on a probably

It sounds like she'll still be on her OTJ trial when she goes in. I don't think you have to worry about her BG. If the vet stress makes it go up, you'll know why and she'll come back down.

Ok... thanks! I was worried she'd go up and not come back down lol

Anybody have any thoughts on Henri's numbers and how shes doing? Her PMBG was a little high as well as her +1. Is this ok?

Yes, she's okay :bighug: Per OTJ instructions, grab a +3 or 4.

From the OTJ instructions:
  • If he/she is green at your normal test times, no need to test further until the next "PS" time; just feed small meals and go about your day.
  • If he/she is blue at your normal "PS", feed a small meal and test again after about 3 or 4 hours

Ok...I just saw the message and I just got a +2 of 70 so I think shes ok then

At what point do I have to worry. What am I looking for. A high AMBG/PMBG and then it either going up from there or staying the same? Is there a number where you might start up insulin again or is it a case by case basis

If you get a couple days in a row of numbers not getting back to green, you may need to restart insulin.

That's a bummer. Toe beans crossed it doesn't come to that. If I do end up having to restart how do you figure out at which dose to do. She was on a drop for only 1 cycle and .1 for 4 cycles
