Well that was another all nighter. Another night on the couch feeding every 1/2 hour o_O
My main goal was to keep her from dropping low enough that she killed another Libre sensor in under a day.

I just can’t handle that and having to feed her all night long just seems like too much insulin for right now so I took a tiny reduction this morning.
I took her down from 3.75 fat dose to 3.75 units.
Depending on what happens I may even reduce her back to a 3.75 u skinny, but we’ll see.

I just can’t keep spending every night on the sofa all night long feeding her every half hour and not sleeping day after day.
Just too much. :spam:

I even did some food experiments overnight just to see if different things might hold her a little longer. I normally only feed her the homemade diet she gets, which is a lamb and sweet potato recipe. But I resorted to adding a drop of Karo to that 12.5% and it only held her for about a half hour before she would drop again. Then I even cracked open a can of FF 15% just to see if that would do anything different. It didn’t do too much different and then I tried adding a drop of Karo a few times. That combo held her for about an hour, but she may have just been finally having the insulin waning a little, bit I’m not sure. (That was at +7.25 and +7.75).

I try not to use FF if I can help it, but I was desperate to try to stretch her cycle a little longer and feed her a little less. It was very intense in terms of how fast she dropped back down the carbs were off so quickly.

Going to try to go back to sleep now for a little bit in the hopes that she can stay stable in the next couple hours as the insulin onsets.
Not sure how the rest of my day is gonna go depending on how this morning works out and what I’m gonna have the energy for:banghead:

Hope everyone has a very safe day.:cat:

Good morning Staci,

oh no... another rough night! Good luck with the decrease, I hope she stays in good numbers but is not going so low anymore. And I hope you can sleep a little more now. Sometimes I find it difficult to sleep again after such a night because the adrenalin is so high.

Little resource to relax, a vagus nerve ear massage, works wonders for me:

Hope today is less stressful. I send you a big, big hug and positive energy! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Oh boy, another rough night for you, Staci. :bighug:

No, this pattern isn't sustainable. I worry for your health - if you keep doing this, it'll catch up with you in some way.
It's so great that you tried experimenting. I'm sure there must be a sweet spot somewhere... It would be nice if we could figure out how we can prevent the drop!
I'm glad you went back to sleep. Hope it's nice restoring sleep and you feel better for the day.
Hope the dose-shaving works for you and Ivy!

Happy Saturday and wishing you a lovely weekend! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

oh woah, that sounds like a frustrating night. I didn't realize the libres could stop working at low blood sugar readings. That seems.... not an ideal design since detecting a low BG would be a primary function of wearing that device. I hope you get some rest today.

I'm sorry to read about your night!
I wonder how do diabetic people manage, with the Libre? Is it just supposed to work above a certain threshold? That's not great.
Did you try getting manual readings? I always wonder how much high carbs "work" if the blood sugar is in a normal range to start. I mean, if her 54 is actually a 85, and the drop of Karo takes her to 95, maybe your Libre will still show in the 50s? That could be something to test if she ever does that during day time, I guess.
I hope you have time today to rest and maybe sleep :bighug:

Hi Heike,
Thank you for the good wishes. It was a long night. And you were right. I was not able to actually fall asleep this morning.
I love the link to the ear massage abs will give that a try. Thank you for sending that. Sometimes it’s the little things that work!
I hope you and Binie had a good day and will have a restful night and that she feels better each day.
Sending you lots of hugs and good wishes :bighug::kiss::bighug:

Hi Kit, yeah, another one all night. I’m hoping the slight reduction helps calm her diving down a little. I need a good sleep.
I was at my wit’s end last night trying to think creatively how to handle the extended lows.
While not limes, they cause the sensor to fail and I can’t work with that either.
It’s such a delicate matter.
I hope you’ve had a good day and can go out tonight with ease!
Enjoy dinner out tonight and safe surfing for Mikan :bighug::bighug::bighug:

hi Seth, yeah, the Libre’s can be very temperamental and it’s a pattern we’ve had and I’ve noticed. The damned device shouts down. It’s not a perfect solution for sure.

Hoping tonight is a lot calmer so I can get some rest.
Have a relaxing night and a safe surfing for Bell :bighug::bighug:

Thank you so much Staci! :bighug::bighug::bighug: I hope this night will be more calm for you and you can sleep in your bed. Please tell Ivy from me, that cuddling and making biscuits is also possible during the day. She doesn't need to do these scary drops at night to get that from you. Her mum needs sleep. :bighug::kiss::bighug:

Hi Cecile, I’m not sure I know all of the answers. I just know what happens with Ivy when she hits these long stretches in low Libre numbers.
When I test these numbers she’s usually from the 60’s to low 100’s on a handheld meter.

It’s always a lot to try to figure out how best to boost her up if she’s lower with the right carb mix. Your questions are good ones.
Thanks for checking in with us.
Hope you have a nice weekend :bighug::bighug:

That’s so frustrating! I can imagine not exactly the thing you want to happened at 3 AM :p

Hey Staci, boy do I hope you can get some sleep tonight, you have to be totally exhausted. If I lived by you I would definitely come over and help out so you could get some sleep, truly mean that. :bighug:

Hi Staci.
Sorry, to hear you had another rough night. I know what you mean about feeding every half hour and the carbs not holding.
Good luck with the reduction and I hope you get some rest.
Wishing you both a calm night. Safe surfing, Ivy! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thank you, Madeline.
I just get to a point where I feel like if I have to feed for hours on end to keep her propped up every half hour it seems like at the moment it’s just too much insulin. I don’t think anyone should have to work that hard. Especially all night long. It just gets unsustainable night after night. So I’ll try a tiny reduction in hopes that that levels her out a little bit.
I hope you and Butch have a very safe night with lots of good sleep.

I understand. I am feeling the same way with Butch. He just had a big dive at +2 and I am giving 24%.
Hoping the tiny reduction levels Ivy out a little bit.
I hope you and Ivy have a very safe night too with lots of good sleep
