Sending healing prayers to all the kitty cats and their caretakers that are not feeling their best
:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

I am stopping Dolly's steroid treatment this morning. They just seem to be making her congestion worse, more stuff in her little nostrils to get rid of. I gave her some Little Remedies in a syringe, very small amount, in hopes it would clear her up some, late last night. We also had a steam shower at midnight, not a happy girl. I have said this before, Dolly has always been my most challenging kitty. She has also become the most compliant, forgiving, rock star (the best I could do this early), angel from heaven. This has been so hard on her but that tail never stops wagging. Here she is in a bed she hasn't been in a long time. Its so fluffy it's hard for her to get in and out of it now.

I need dosing advice for Dolly. I figured since she had that 54 a few days ago I should wait until tomorrow to increase her. I believe the high numbers are probably due to the 11% Shredded Chicken, all she will eat. If I give her a lc / mc mix, she finds the mc and only eats that. Her ability to smell is very limited. I sometimes have to add drops of salted sardine water to get her to eat the mc. The phosphorus in this food is also very high. Per her last labs her phosphorus levels were good. Need to get a recheck. Wait for tomorrow for increase? Thank you.

I am so sorry the drops haven’t helped. I hope you find a way to make her feel better real soon. Right now while not in the numbers she’s been at they aren’t awful either. I would feed her the 11% if that’s what she wants to eat and increase the insulin to keep her under renal threshold if she were my cat. I’d try and find a few more foods she likes because knowing cats she will probably at some point not want to eat her current fave any more. I’d increase tomorrow unless you see green today or tonight. I wish I had a magical pill for your beautiful girl. :bighug:

Hi Elise, I just did the carb calculator on this food, there is more than one shredded chicken. This one comes out to 1% wet 4% on dry matter. Do you know how to figure it out.
14% protein
2% fat
1.5% fiber
78% moisture
3.5% ash
Her shredded chicken is in broth. There is also one in a sauce. I don’t know which is being referred to on Lisa’s chart

Thank you so much Elise for the kind thoughts. You’ve supported us a long time and I am always so grateful. Now that I can’t blame her numbers on her food it is probably infection or pain or both. Take care Elise. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

HI Adrienne! I posted this last night on your condo from 10/23 so you perhaps didn't see it. It was in response to your message about Dolly's hip.

Have you tried the Adequan injections? I understand about the surgery. I would never do it either in a cat of Dolly’s age.

There’s a surgery called a Femoral Head Ostectomy that one of my younger cats has had. It’s pretty barbaric sounding… but it worked. She had a fracture of the femur right up at the top where it goes into the hip joint. They literally remove the whole top part of the femur and it heals and forms a kind of false joint. Apparently if they get a fracture there it can never really heal, so I had no other option. She runs and jumps like anything now and is not in any pain. But, as I said, that was a young cat. She was only about one year old at the time. We don’t even know how she broke it. In young cats this can happen since the growth plates at the ends of the bones haven’t hardened up all the way yet.

Gotta run pick up my Emma from the vet... I'll check in on Dolly later.

I soooo wish I could do something to help! I hope the Little Remedies helps. I have used it in the past in dire congestion situations... the only caution is that you can't use it for very many days in a row (like maybe three??) or you can get the "rebound" effect of worsened congestion. But my vet told me that I could use it a little bit. Same caution applies to people. HUGS AND HUGS AND MORE HUGS! Kiss on the head for Dolly.

Love the picture of your girl. You are fortunate that she is so compliant especially with all that the both of you are going through. Hope you find some more l/c or m/c foods that she will eat. Having a cat with a subdued appetite is certainly challenging. I think it was @Lila & Butters who once told me that it is more important to get a cat to eat than to be overly cautious about the numbers. Feed them anything they will eat if they aren't well and are not eating. You can always adjust the insulin. Love that big, fluffy bed she has!

Adrienne Please check out PranaPets.com They have been a Life Saver for JoJo and Amethyst with their Holistic Remedies.Odorless and tasteless I put 15 drops in their food everyday!!!:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug: Healing Prayers!!

Thanks for the caution about the little remedies. Been using every day. I’ve probably made her worse.

She’s already had the Adequan injections. She has irregular heart beat. No surgery, she probably can’t have anesthesia. She is too old for major surgery and not healthy enough right now. Thanks for all the suggestions. Remember I fractured my Femur but I have rods and screws.

Yes. I do remember that you had a major femur fracture :( I just wasn’t remembering if you had tried Adequan. I was not suggesting surgery for Dolly. Not at all. I’m sorry to be so unhelpful!
