Good evening,

thank you all so much for the sweet support, you gave us in the thread yesterday! @Staci & Ivy, @Diane Tyler's Mom GA, @SmallestSparrow, @bluesunshine, @cecile & bella

Today was an overall pink day after we saw some higher blue numbers last night. We have been very lucky to get an appointment at the vet. Mondays are always full, the vet was alone without her young collegue and she was half sick. They gave us an appointment after hours and I am totally grateful for that.

I was very nervous because I didn't really know how the wound under her armpit looks like, as Binie does not let me have a closer look. I just saw that it was bleading and that it seems to be quite long. That is how it looks like:

Thank god it is not deep and it not inflamed. Where the vet could feel some hard lumps last time it was more soft and puffy, a bit like liquid building up in the tissue she said. She has some smaller wounds on her breast but they are crusty and not open. The worst part, you can see in the picture is in her armpit and that is where the whole issue started last year in October.

The vet says she has no idea what this could be. She says the tissue doesn't feel like a tumor but you never know. But the pathology didn't find anything after the surgery and the needle biopsy was also without a result. She doesn't believe in an allergy, as the problems are always coming at the same place.

She changed her mind about surgery and said that she is not sure if this would help as we tried it before. And during the last surgery she took lots of tissue out (there was even something grown in the muscle) and as the area seems to get bigger she wouldn't know how to do it.

She again suggested steroids but not as a depot, because of the diabetes, but carefully testing with a shot for one or two days or in the form of pills. I asked if it is acceptable to wait and to leave it like that - because in the past it always went away on its own - and she said that it would be o.k.

I asked her if steroids are contra-productive with the germ in her bladder but she said that she doesn't see a connection. For me, coming from a non-medical profession, this sounds strange as I would think, that Binie needs the full power of her immune system now to defend further infections.

I asked again about a cone (even though I hate it) and she strongly recommended not to, because it would be very stressful for Binie and she sees the licking only as a symptom and not the problem.

I talked with a friend about it and she suggested to make her wear a cone for two hours a day, so I have a chance to put some kind of healing ointment on the open part, without it being licked away immediately. That sounds like a fair deal for me and I might give it a try. I just didn't decide yet, which ointment to try.

So I am sitting here with no real answers but at least I know, that I don't have to rush any decisions.

I hope her bg gets better the next days. I might increase to 2 IU if I don't see a change. Maybe she needs a little more with all what's going on.

Hope you all have a good start in the week! :bighug::cat::bighug:

I'm glad you were able to Binie in to see the vet today, and had a good discussion of options with her. I agree with you on being careful with prednisolone and it causing immune compromise.

Have you ever tried soft cones? Examples from Amazon. I like the citrus and flowers. :p

I'd give her a couple more days, but looks like this dose isn't getting her where she should be. Extra sugar in her bladder isn't going to help get rid of the bacteria there.

Thank you so much for checking on us and your opinion on the prednisolone, Wendy! For me it is really our last option.

Thank you also for the cone suggestions! :) I bought two soft ones she wore after her surgery and they are so much better than this hard plastic stuff, some vets use. I just need the ones with velcro (like that with the planets) because I could never put something over her head - but putting something around her neck works fine.

Yes, I will wait a few days and than go up with the dose if I don't see any improvement. With that multiresistant germ in her bladder, controlling the bg becomes more important than ever. Hope you have a good start in the week! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Heike, I’m so glad you got to see the vet today. I agree with Wendy. It sounds like you had a good discussion about many things.
I like the idea that you came up with a partial contemporary wearing of the soft cone if it is needed to keep buying me from licking the area where you would put any medication. That sounds like a good idea.

I’m sure you came out of the appointment with your head, spinning, trying to understand and evaluate and make decisions on what to do next. It’s so overwhelming I understand.

So do you think it will be pills or a shot as your options?

And is there a medication recommended to put on the wound??

I wish this would be an easy one to solve Heike. But you are doing everything and checking every option.
I hope Binie was not too mad to go to the vet today and she’s forgiven you.
I hope she is resting comfortably and so are you. I’m sure you both had quite a day.

Sending you love and hugs. And healing wishes for your sweet girl I hope you can get some rest tonight :bighug::kiss::bighug::kiss:

Hi Heike , I'm glad you were able to see the vet today and she gave you some options. Hopefully it will start to heal by itself.Did the vet suggest an ointment you could use. The cone with the Velcro looks like a good idea . I'm glad the would wasn't deep and inflamed. Poor baby I feel so bad for her . :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Oh poor Binie, I'm super glad you got her in today. How is she doing after the visit?

I went through a bunch of cones earlier this year when Bell was dealing with her anal gland ruptures. The planet one worked the best. Here's a picture of Bell in it so you can get an idea of the size:
