Good evening,

another high red and pink day. I don't know why she is so high and I don't like it. She is acting fine. I hope she goes down gently tonight.

The licking slows down and maybe we get a break from this. I didn't use the coconut oil yesterday and today.

Today her supplements came: Evening primrose oil for her skin and freeze dried cranberrypowder. I made a paste with the oils (primrose and algae), the cranberrys, d-mannose with another supplement which comes as a lick. She was a bit skeptical first but in the end it seemed to be tasty somehow. I wonder if I should start test her urine for ph-value. I want to get it more sour but of course not too much. Some more research to do....

Soon her probiotics will be finished and even after lots of research I didn't find anything, which conviced me enough to buy. Either they don't have many bacteria inside or they have sugar. I now decided to start making kefir, as she likes it and it seems to be beneficial. Thanks to @Fistuk & Shelly for the idea! I ordered the mushroom today to make it and it feels like getting another pet to take care of. Just without fur (at least if everything goes right). As she only gets 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon a day, I will drink a lot of kefir the next month/years or forever. :)

Hope everyone has a relaxed and happy weekend! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Heike, wow, that’s so impressive to make kefir. Sounds like another animal in your home. I admire your dedication:). But if it helps, it will totally be worth it!
Good job with the supplements. I’m glad to hear Binie found them somewhat tasty. I’ll be interested to hear how you find everything working. Hopefully it will make her feel even better.
Glad to hear she seems to be feeling OK and not licking too terribly much.

It would be nice to see her come down out of the pinks and reds for sure. We’d love to see a gentle slide down to yellows and blues.
:)

I hope you are having a nice night and enjoy the weekend. Hoping you can get some rest, too Heike
Hugs to you and Binie :bighug::cat:

Hi Staci,

thank you so much! :bighug::kiss::bighug: I think making kefir is by far not as impressive as making your own cat food. It is just pouring milk over the mushrooms and stirring once a day.

I would have loved to introduce all these different supplements a bit more slowly, to see which one is working how and in case she is not doing well on one. But I don't want to lose too much time because I feel her body needs some help.

Seems she is going down now.... greatful for that! Enjoy your Saturday Staci and give sweet Ivy a chin scratch from me! :cat::kiss::cat:

I know you’d prefer the slow approach. Hoping you will give the extra support Binie needs and it will make her feel better.

I’m still fascinated with the whole Keifer thing!
Yes, the home cooking is a time investment, but I love doing it for her.

Ivy said thank you for the chin scratch. And we send a nose boop back with a kiss for Binie ❤️

Thank you so much, also from Binie! She loved the nose boop and the kiss! :cat:❤️:cat:

I will give an update on the kefir thing. :) And I know you love to spoil Ivy and do everything for her health. You are such a great and loving mum!

Hi Heike!
Kefir is good for you too, and you can use it instad of milk or buttermilk in recipes, too. I put mine in breads, waffles or pancakes, cakes... it's all good. Bella loves to eat the grains if I have too many, they multiply too fast! I sent my daughter back to college with some grains for her roommate who is from Russia, he was buying it. Now they are making it :-)
I hope Binnie will start showing you better numbers soon.

Oh, that is interesting! Thank you Cecile! :bighug::bighug::bighug: I didn't know that cats can eat the grains too! How much kefir do you give her? The information I found vary a lot.

Binie likes the store bought kefir but I read that the home-made is much more potent. I am also curious to bake with it. Today I read you can use it instead of sourdough starter for bread. I will give an update! :)

I hope Bella continues to feel better. I see her numbers are going down. Great! :D:D:D

Hope you have nice Saturday! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I give her maybe a teaspoon when I strain it. And then one or 2 grains if I have too many. I don't really measure. she loves all forms of dairy!
I used it with my sourdough starter but instead of water to make a bread I eat for breakfast, with raisins and other dried fruits. It's very good, and softer, like "pain au lait", kind of like brioche but with no fat.
I have a friend who makes butter with kefir, too, I did not try it. She uses it to add ferments to cream and then makes butter with cream, so it's cultivated butter, with probiotics.

Thank you Cecile! I think we will work ourselves up with the dose. The bread sounds heavenly and the idea with the butter is great. Maybe the butter should be stored in a safe - just in case thieves are in the house! :)

Well @Staci & Ivy @Heike & BInie @cecile & bella i just open cans and pouches. I did cook bone broth for them (a 20 hr investment bc I was too afraid to sleep with it cooking) but two December’s ago they got sick and I was afraid it was from my broth. So I stopped. I’ve been wanting to try again but Methos is so fragile these days I’m afraid…besides it took coaxing to get Methos to eat it or any food I cooked for him (steamed salmon, poached chicken, banana truffles). I also hated throwing away so much meat because I couldn’t buy just bones :(
Nights like tonight, when I’m going to be up all night anyway (this cat!!!:banghead:) would be a great time though to be simmering cat broth
Maybe I should try kefir
