Hmmm… finally got the ketone meter up and running.

Is this bad seeing ketones at all? I was hoping for 0.0. :(

Hi Jason.
From what I know having some traces is normal. But Ketones can grow very quickly so you might want to track this now carefully.

Add some warm water to Koa's food if he'll take it.
I don't have experience with ketones meter. I0ve always used strips. But (unfortunately) I do have experience with ketone so I suggest you keep track now.

I'm tagging @Bron and Sheba (GA) who's expert on this. She's in Australia so she won't see it until her morning time.

keep us posted, Jason.

You're doing great. Kona is really sweet :bighug:

Thanks, I did a full panel yesterday from the vet, so good news is we will get lab work results tomorrow for extra info. But yes, I'm testing ketones now randomly or as needed from here on out.

Thanks @Fistuk & Shelly

Another things I forgot to mention, make sure he's eating well. As someone once told me here and it really echoed, food is medicine. And normally with ketones you need to feed 1.5 times the normal quantity of food.
I'm sharing from my own experience and the advice I've received here. YOu'll get soon enough the guidance of experienced people here xx

Yes, thanks so much for the notes. She is eating fine and I am basically bumping up to 1.5 of feeding due to my new task of introducing more snacks/food with hopes of dealing with her bounces and dives.

She is NOT showing any clinical signs of any issues at all that I can tell, so that's good.

Yes, I know the nutrition aspect is major. It's like a puzzle trying to figure it out. =)

Thanks!!!!

@Jason - Kona's Dad
Hi Jason I did a search about ketone meters on our site , here is what I found that members said about the meters

With the blood ketone meter it often reads with ketones from 0 to 0.9 or sometimes higher and there is no concern. One also needs to be looking at the cat and seeing how the cat is….is he dehydrated, vomiting, lethargic, drinking a lot, weak, breathing fast. These are all red flags.
The latest information says that once the blood ketones meters read 2.4 to 2.55 then you need to take action
More information HERE

Another post
The research says that "in cats indicate ketones will begin to show up at readings of 2.4 and 2.55 on a blood ketone meter."

You're the BEST, @Diane Tyler's Mom, I've been reading some of the same notes on the forum as well.
