11/27 OT: 2017 Spreadsheets--PLEASE MOVE YOUR 2017 TAB TO THE FAR LEFT

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. Our prayers to all who are not well or are grieving the loss of a beloved one.

If you do not know how to create a new tab for the 2017 SS, you can either contact me via PM and I’ll do it for you or, if you are confident in your computer skills, here’s how to do it if you are using either US Spreadsheet (human or pet meter):

1. Open the SS.
2. At the bottom, you’ll see a tab entitled “Template”. Left click on the dropdown arrow next to it and select “duplicate”. It will make a new SS with the tab entitled “Copy of Template”.
3. Left click on the dropdown arrow on the new tab, select “Rename”, and type in 2017.
4. On January 1, 2017, left click on the new 2017 tab (not the arrow), and drag it all the way to the left so it is in first position (which means that will be the SS that opens when someone access it from within FDMB.

If you have been around a while and your SS does not have a “Template” tab, please PM me (it’s probably time you upgraded to the new SS which has a “Template” tab and then we can link the old SS; I’m happy to do this for you, if you like).

Please send me a PM if you have any problems.

If you are using either World SS, the best solution is to create a new SS and link the old one(s). The reason is because if you just create a new tab for 2017, you will have to get rid of your previous year(s) US tabs which doesn’t help anyone. I am happy to create new World SSs (and link the old ones) for anyone.
UPDATE ON WORLD TEMPLATE: With Duane's (Baby Boo’s dad) help, I am now able to add the new year tabs for World and US to your existing SS. Thank you VERY MUCH @babyBoo! As soon as I have a bit more time, I’ll add the directions on the Tech Support Forum but in the meantime, if you need help, please PM me and I’ll do it for you. It’s actually quick.

I am more than happy to add templates, do new SSs, etc. for anyone at all but please ask ASAP so I don’t have 100 requests on New Year’s Eve :):)

I managed to add extra pages to Purrdy's world spreadsheet last year and get them functioning. I can't remember what I did off the top of my head but I'm sure I'll stumble onto it again. Liz is visiting this weekend :) so I'll be busy playing tourist with her but will get onto it the weekend after and come back here to let people know how to do it.
 
Well Marje as you know I am not the best SS maker but I can manage this! What I cant figure out is where did the top control bar go on mine.
I know I did something but I cant figure it out. I cant change colors in my typing or anything else for that matter. LOL

There is a way to do it but you have to delete the 2016 US page. I’ve worked with it and worked with it and that’s the only way I could get the 2017 numbers to convert. So if you can figure it out, I’d love to know!

The top bar is only visible if you open it from google drive to edit it. It is not visible if you click on the link in FDMB because no one should be able to use the tool bar....not even you :)

I checked the SS in google and it looks fine to me. PM me if you still have issues with it once you have opened it from google drive.

Hi Marje, Are there any other reasons to upgrade to the new SS? I created a "template" tab years ago for the old SS and it has always worked very well. But if there is more functionality with the new SS, I'd like to find out about it.

After doing the below steps. I realized I could have just copied the original world and us spreadshhet templates from the originals during the steps of setting up the spreadsheet in the first place. Then just "right click" "copy to" each template tab. "Rename" them. And then do the "find and replace" step on the US spreadsheet so that the formulas in each cell refer to the new named World sheet,

Below is the longer method I first used.

I have sort of found a way to make copies of the world and us sheets for 2017.
First I went to someone with a template in their spreadsheet, I used Osha's.
(later need to edit row 1 to the world values, better to find a blank world template)
Second, clicked on the template rightside arrow to open up the window that had "Copy To" and clicked that
Third, in window that opens to select spreadsheet to copy to. under files selected my spreadsheet by a click on it. Then hit the select button.
When sheet successfully copied. Clicked OK. then went to my spreadsheet and there is a new tab named "Copy of Template"
Fourth, right clicked on that new tab and select rename. Then renamed it. I chose World17 mmol/L
Fifth, right clicked on my US spreadsheet and selected "duplicate"
- note: this would be easier todo from a clean copy of the US if you find someone that has one if yours is edited at all. similar to copying Osha's template above like I did. You wouldn't need to edit any or many cells.
Sixth, once copy was made then right clicked it to rename it US17 mg/dl
Seventh, select that new US sheet to open it, then in top bar menu click edit, scroll down and click "find and replace"
- you need to replace part of the old spreadsheet name with the new one.
- for me I place "World" in find slot and "World17" into the replace with slot.
- in "search" change all sheets to "this sheet"
- click to select the "also search within formulas" box.
- click "replace all" and wait until you get something like "Replaced 11,000 instances of World with World17" above the "replace all" buttons.
- wait for the sheet to save and then click "done".

and if your US sheet only had reflections of your world sheet you might be done.
I had a few edits made on it. Now I just need to go back and change the edited cells to the formula supposed to be there. A close by cell should have the correct formula. Just need to copy and edit the column Letter and/or row number.
Then change the cell formatting back.

I did the world/US update like this (in Purrdy's spreadsheet, the link is in the top of Vyktor's):
- insert two new pages in the spreadsheet and rename them appropriately. Since we won't be using them I just called them US and W

For the World page
- copy the whole world page for last year then paste special 'format only' into the new world sheet
- copy the top two lines with headings (may need to copy more lines if you have additional line/s at the top that contain feeding or medical info) and paste them into the top lines of the new world page
- any cells that have been manually coloured in the old world page will have been picked up in the new page so go through and fix those. The data entry areas can be done in three batches (date and AMPS, +1 to PMPS, PMPS to +11), highlight each area that needs changing and select reset from the fill colour drop down box. Do the U columns separately and select the appropriate colour.
- delete any rows that have been marked off for some reason, e.g. change of meter, insulin etc.

For the US page
- do the same steps as above to get a clean sheet (except that the original page copy is from the old US sheet)
- copy a row from the old US page, (I use one that does not have any off the hour tests) and paste special 'formula only' into the first data entry line of the new US page
- click in each cell from date to +1 and adjust the formula so that it starts reading from the new world page instead of the old one, eg in Purrdy's example I just needed to replace '2016 World mmol_L' with 'W'. From +2 to PMPS I just dragged the adjusted formula from +1 across. I adjusted the formula in the U and +1 columns from the PM cycle manually and then dragged the adjusted +1 formula across to +11. Adjusted the remarks column manually. (The replace function that @babyBoo talks about would work as well or better).
- test the new row by entering data in the new world page to make sure it's functioning as expected - it should be.
- when satisfied copy the row from the new US page, highlight the rest of the page below (as far down as you'll need for the year, about 370 rows down) and paste special 'formula only'

Thank you! It sounds like what I already tried but it didn't work for me so maybe I missed a step. I appreciate the detailed instructions and I'll give it another go.

I've read all this, and the main result has been a pain between my ears. I'm primarily a visual learner, so this is not going to be easy.

Actually, my 1st problem is that I don't understand why we are referencing "World" and "US".
I also don't understand why I can't just name a row YEAR 2017 and just continue on. Is there a problem with having too many sheets in my SS?
Also I don't know what the term "special formula only" means or what it refers to.

This is a set of problems similar to the problems I had when I first joined FDMB. Y'all are using terminology I don't understand, and referring to other things , the meaning of which I do not know.

you don't need to worry about it Kathy....the "World" version is for people who live in places other than the US that use a different scale for their blood glucose than we do....the World/US version just lets them enter the numbers they see on their meters and then it converts it to the US numbers so we can all understand them

The problem with continuing to add lines is that once the spreadsheet gets a certain length, it can take FOREVER to get it to load....if your cat is in crisis and you need help, you don't want to wait 10 minutes for people to be able to see your current spreadsheet numbers

Don't freak out.....there are several of us here than can help set you up!!

The problem with continuing to add lines is that once the spreadsheet gets a certain length, it can take FOREVER to get it to load....if you're cat is in crisis and you need help, you don't want to wait 10 minutes for people to be able to see your current spreadsheet numbers
