Yes, I'm replying to myself. I went ahead and dosed Blue because even though he's low he's not that low.
Another thought was the food I gave him from the vet is HC. I wasn't going to feed him that, but when you don't sleep very much you forget these things. :banghead:

Mogs, how's the bug? I hope she's eating by now. :cat:

There's no law against that, Patty! :D

Very good AMPS for the Bluebird today. :cat: Hoping all goes smoothly today for you both. How is he feeling/acting today? (((Blue)))

'The bug' (like that!) has eaten something for me! I took a punt on mixing some of her previous Virbac digestive support kibble with the CKD stuff and - huge anti-jinx! - she's started grazing away on the combo under her own steam. I've had a look at the nutrient analysis for both and I might be able to continue giving her a suitable mix of the two without breaching the maximum protein target and adding a little phosphorus binder to keep it under the phosphorus target. Fingers, paws, and anything else I can think of are well and truly crossed... :nailbiting: (((Noodle)))

That's great news Mogs. See, I knew you'd figure it out. That's what you do. ;)

Blue is pretty good today. He is not hiding so there's that! I do worry about his tight tummy but will wait and see what transpires. He's at 168 +1

So glad to hear Blue's not hiding today. It always withers me when they do that. It's especially those times when I wish they could speak so that they might tell us something that might help us help them feel better...

(((Blue)))

Sending some extra, extra gentle kisses better for his little tum...

Good morning. I think avoiding so much hc and syrup is why his amps is lower. Testing often to avoid a drop under 50 has helped. The more time he spends in blue and green the better for him and hopefully less pinks and higher. I experimented with that last night. If he falls under 50 at this point I would give a 1/8 reduction a try. I think the calipers will make it easy and consistent. Just something to think about once you have some naps today.

Also, he's back hiding upstairs.
Maybe observe how he reacts to different flavours of food, e.g. does he seem OK on one flavour but retreats upstairs if he eats a different one. It could help you work out whether a particular flavour disagrees with him. (That helped me to work out what to give to Saoirse.)

I do think it might be one of the foods that he eats because his bg has dropped but then he feels bad. Max always had a decrease in appetite with pancreatitis. I know ECID but just not sure that’s what it is. Any more diarrhea?

I'm not sure about diarrhea because of too many cats. I only knew about it yesterday because he squatted right in front of me. Not normal for Blue.

I have tried to limit the variety of food I feed. The new is the ID and with his BG going down I figured it wouldn't hurt to feed it to him. He doesn't dig it. I am very worried about his hard bloated tummy.

Also...Blue will eat just about anything and very fast like he's always starving. Just the ID has been an issue. I was looking around for a food for a sensitive stomach and found a list of the best 5. I just need to research more to find out carbs etc.

If you do manage to identify foods that don't seem to agree with Blue then it's worth studying the food labels to see whether there might be one or more common ingredients among them. Then you could try picking foods that don't contain them. NB: Carrageenan is definitely an ingredient to avoid. It's a pro-inflammatory agent and can cause IBD in both cats and humans (according to ibdkitties.net).

I also think he's in pain. He's a loaf now. Do you think the Gabapentin would be okay and help him?
Oh, Blue... :(

(((Blue)))

I'm so miffed with your vet (putting it very mildly)! They should have given you something to use 'if and as needed' to tide you over the weekend. :(

I'm so sorry but I can't help on the gabapentin, Patty, because I've never used it. Saoirse and the Noodle were only ever prescribed buprenorphine for pancreatitis. I'd suggest popping up a new thread asking whether gabapentin can help pancreatitis pain. Other members may know more and might be able to help you better.

Tve hard tummy could be from pancreatitis. Butters had that. I think he is likely in pain too. Did he have any negative reaction to gabapenton? If not I would try it. I prefer buprenorphine though.

Lyla has used and is still using gabapenton with Butters but also buprenorphine.

One of the things I really cherish about our vets is that they offer their own out-of-hours service every day of the year. In a situation like Blue's today, all I'd have to do would be to pick up the phone for advice and, if necessary, the on-call vet would go into the surgery to examine my cat and/or dispense any emergency meds needed.

You are lucky. It would be nice to have on-call vets. We have an ER that's just a few miles and they're 24/7 but too expensive to use unless life threatening. I will call my vet in the morning to get pain meds.

No problem. Thanks for checking in. He's down to 139 now +4 so I'm trying to follow advice by Elise on what to feed and when to test. I'm doing pretty good so far but will post for help if I need any.
