What is 1.0U exactly? I'm using these new UtiliCare Vet Rx syringes and want to make sure I got this right.

My camera angles are not straight and flat, I apologize, but I hope the question is clear. How do you treat the line?

A: top of the line
B: middle of the line
C: touching the line on the bottom?

Put the syringe exactly on the 1 unit mark

So that sounds like option B of my photos above. Exactly ON the marking to me would be in the middle of it. Not the start or end of the line. Because the line is sooo wide, I want to me sure I get it right.

I will try to dig up the calipers and watch that instruction video again.

With the syringe facing needle-side up, it would be the top of the line. Using callipers is a good idea since the markings on the syringe are quite off. If you press the plunger fully and check each syringe, you will see that often the zero mark does not align with the plunger in the fully pressed position. Callipers take a little getting used to, but give you accuracy and consistency in dosing.

Attaching a photo I took of a couple of syringes. One on the left is at 0.50U when the plunger is fully pressed and the other is at 0.25U. In some syringes, the plunger when fully pressed is above zero (with the needle facing up)!

Thanks, great tips. I'll try to figure out the calipers!

my goodness I now realise that I may have not done dosing right!!! i don't use caliper, I haven't seen it. i use a magnifying glass and set the plunger to touch the line from the bottom when it's filled wit hjuice

Right!?! here I was embarassed to even post the question when I've been doing this for 6 months, not really questioning.

I've read quite a bit this morning... I think the most important thing is just that we are consistent! So the number is really arbitrary as long as we are super consistent. Whereas the sryinge lines are not consistent, makes it challenging.
