I still am not sure I understand a bounce. I know it has something to do with the pancreas pouring out insulin to protect her from her low numbers (not enough insulin) yesterday. I know what I just said is not quite right. I don’t know where to find the files to see if there is an explanation in there.

Here's a fun explanation on bouncing - https://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB...-ndw-and-failed-reductions.46012/#post-642819 (the post before the one I linked covers new dose wonkiness and is a good read too).

The straight bouncing definition from the The Basics sticky at the top of the board is:
  • Bouncing - Bouncing is simply a natural reaction to what the cat's system perceives as a BG value that is "too low". "Too low" is relative. If a cat is used to BGs in the 200's, 300's, or higher for a long time, then even a BG that drops to 150 can trigger a "bounce". Bouncing can also be triggered if the blood glucose drops too low and/or too fast. The pancreas, then the liver, release glucogon, glycogen and counter-regulatory hormones. The end result is a dumping of "sugar" into the bloodstream to save the cat from going hypoglycemic from a perceived low. The action is often referred to as "liver panic" or "panicky liver". *Usually*, a bounce will clear kitty's system within 3 days (6 cycles).
Hope that helps some :bighug:

In practical terms, it means time to take a pokie break and catch up on sleep! You don't have to test as much. You could've taken a break after +4 this morning :)
Thanks. What about tonight? One check at +? Thank you again for hanging with me last night. Those two hours were the deepest sleep I’ve had in a long time :joyful:.

Dolly is so quiet today. She can’t meow, something happened to her voice box, she just makes the cutest grunting sounds especially when she’s playing by herself and on the hunt for foil toys. Lots of sleeping today, she looks sad and wants to be left alone.

Normally with Lantus, if you get a +2 that should give you an indicator of how active the cycle is going to be. However, Dolly seems to be unpredictable. Why don't you we start with a +2.5 and see where she heads?

It's the numbers going up and down that sometimes makes them more or less active. When a cat is new to lower numbers (after weeks/months in higher numbers), they look listless, but once they get used to lower numbers, its the other way around. They become very active and playful in lower numbers and not as much in higher numbers.

That helps, thank you. :)

I hope so, last bounce was just one day. Thanks for being there. I definitely need the sleep. Food there to graze on.
That’s the only thing I miss about Dr Elsey’s, dry food to graze on. Now I wake up to give fresh food, she won’t eat the cold food from the fridge, she can’t smell it, doesn’t even get close enough to touch it, it’s as if there’s nothing there. Anyway, going to bed. Have a good day. :):cat:
