? 12/1 Chester vet forcing otj trial

Hello you all! I have not updated Chesters chart since the last time I posted on here about 2 weeks ago. I have his readings on a hard copy and haven’t transferred it to the online chart. Just to sum it up he is still on .5u because his glucose went slightly over 100 a few times. Also we are struggling financially and I’ve had to ration his glucose strips a fair amount. His glucose has only been below 65 once in the last two weeks so I haven’t been too concerned by it.

The reason I am here today tho, if you are unaware me and Chester are a low income family. We were lucky enough to find a non-profit veterinarian who gave us a vial of insulin for free. They gave us little to no advice on treatment which is why I came to you all. I just contacted them last week and they seen Chesters chart for the first time. Being uneducated as most vets are, they dived down our throats and even threatened to not give us anymore insulin; Out of concern that I was putting Chester in danger with too frequent dose changes. Saying that if I do not comply with their regulations it would be considered a waste of resources.

I know that you all would not recommend going from .5u to an otj trial. I am very scared and feeling a taste of how it felt when he was first diagnosed and we had no access to medicine. We need this vet on our side in order to keep Chester safe in the long run. They say they will give us more insulin if we take him off for a week and his blood sugar doesn’t stay regulated. I will probably start this trial tomorrow as well as get a bunch of glucose strips so we don’t have to ration.

I know you all are probably going to be atleast half as upset as me to get this information. But as always I am glad to have you for support and guidance. I will get Chesters chart updated online as soon as I can. Try not to go too hard on us we’re feeling pretty sensitive at the moment❤️

Ps: On a positive note, the other day I seen Chester stretching and trying to stand on his tip toes. :) his neuropathy is healing and I will not let it come back!

Here's a thought. How about giving 0.25 and show vet how it increases on smaller amount. That way you are not totally stopping insulin and it can show vet it's still needed.

You posted same time I was typing.

We'd love to help you, but would really like to see that spreadsheet update. Could you put in at least the last couple weeks of data? He was looking really good on the older data. I hope he can continue his trend. :D
