Good evening,

first time we saw blue numbers last night again! Yeahhhh!!! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

On the other side: Oh no! Blue numbers without the libre! At night! Help!!! :)

But I rather deal with my anxiety than seeing Binie so high all the time. That really worried me. Today she peed remarkably less and I think she also feels better again.

My cold got worse so last night so it was quite difficult for me to wake up and do the tests. When she had blue at +7, I went through her ss and decided that she might go lower, even higher greens, but no extreme drops where I have to stay awake and feed. Might have been like that regarding the fact, that she had an unusual low AMPS this morning. I am a bit sad I miss this data and scared, I might missed a necessary reduction.

Again she started lower than usual this night and we will see what the night brings. I had to surrender to my body today and after a rough day with working - sleeping for an hour - working and so on I decided I will stay in bed tomorrow.

Her skin does not look like we will put on a new libre soon. Maybe someone has ideas what this is and how to treat it? I tried coconut oil, evening primrose oil, collodial silver and diluted arnica essence so far. It is almost four weeks ago that on this spot the libre was placed. The other side, where I removed the last libre ten days ago, looks better but it also gets this hard reptile skin on it which is coming off in flakes. The skin below it is pinkish.

Thank you so much Staci! Just before Christmas is my typical time for a cold. Think I have to go through it. Thank god I don't have any busy Christmas preparations todo.

Yes, I also hope the bacterias in her bladder behave well. I like to remind myself that Ivy had this problem too and she did well.

Thank you so much for the hugs and kisses! Same from us for Ivy and you! :bighug::kiss::bighug:

Thank you Seth! :bighug::bighug::bighug: I think both of our girls don't need a UTI! Hope you get good results soon. Not quite sure what "good" in this context means.... Yes, Binie made a surf down last night! Hope Bell does it too. At least she is out of the nasty pinks.... I hope she comes back to blue and green soon!:D:D:cool:

Thank you so much Collen for using the term "gently". I hate these fast and early drops but love her going down slowly and gently. I am not sure if she has a UTI or not. I did some further reading and understood, that bacterias in the urin does not mean UTI, which has to be treated. But let's wait what the further lab results say. But there must be a reason she need so much more insulin to see blues, right? Or maybe her skin? All these questions in my mind.... I know you can relate! I see Methos is dipping gently in yellow numbers. Hope you have a relaxed day and hopefully also night! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

You are doing such a good job with Binie —remember to take care of yourself as well. It sounds like an allergic reaction since it is where each libre was, and not spreading all over. As you’ve said it hard to tell if it was the spray or the adhesive on the libre itself. Some humans have allergies to surgical glue we use to close skin wounds. When that happens the entire area can get red and covered with blisters that then open and weep. Google “Dermabond allergies”. Allergies usually take a while to show, because the body has to be exposed to something before it starts to make antibodies , so for a while it can cause no problem but then later it causes problems.

What does your vet think?

Thank you so much Cecile! :bighug::bighug::bighug: Blue numbers are always where "yeahh" and :nailbiting: come together. It was all easier with the libre. I would go to bed and be sure, the nasty alarm will wake me up if she goes too low. But it helps my to know, that you do so well with Bella without and you even get some sleep! Hope you two are fine. I am going to check on you guys later! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thank you Colleen! :bighug::bighug::bighug: That makes sense to me, that it only shows after a while. I will google it. I found a fb group today which is only about people who get rashes from cgms. So this seems to be an issue. I just told my vet about it but we did not go into detail because they have been quite stressed and to talk about the urine was my priority. And to be honest, I don't feel they come up with very new ideas.... How is Methos wound doing?

Thank you Colleen! Yes, I also read that the problem might be inside the sensor. But because the area is quite big, I somehow think/hope it is just the skin tac. That is something I can avoid. But we'll see. It has to heal first and then I try the libre without skin tac. Might help to find out. I just didn't think it would take so long....

And thank you also for the pdf! It was great to see the picture. The allergical reaction was limited to the area the sensor was placed. But for Binie the affected area was much bigger. It was everywhere I put the skin tac.

Human allergies to skin glue usually go on for some time. It’s a type IV allergic response so rather than mediated by antibodies it’s driven by the cells that fight foreign invades getting turned on and they in turn keep recruiting more of those cells to join the fight.

The skin tac could be the problem. Since the fix there is easier I hope that’s the case. In the meantime you may want to also look into monitors that don’t have the. Same ingredient

O.k..... that might explain why the skin got worse even though the sensor and all the products have been removed. Hope it calms down soon. Thank god it does not seem to bother her too much but sometimes she is licking at the edges of the area. :(

Yes, it is worth the research. I think the dexcom is another option. Even though we become better with the poking, a cgm gives peace of mind.... But it is mean to tell you, because I know you would love to do so too....

I would love to use one but I’m happy others can and very sad when Binie can’t. But you are becoming quite the expert with your meter :)

Besides he forgave my extra sticks (AND sub q fluids) enough to struggle into my lap so life is very very good

I am glad you are learning how/when you need to test when you have to use the BG meter. And so happy one of those tests rewarded you with a blue! Also good to see a yellow preshot too. :) I like this dose better so far.

Thank you so much Wendy! I am surprised about the difference! Also she had a quite low day today and no bouncing. But I have to be honest that 3 IU feels a lot to me....

She was safe, i am glad you went to bed! You need to be in good shape to take care of her, if you're too sick or tired it's not going to work. That's been my way of seeing this, other than extreme (and rare) cases when she was very low and clearly not flattening or going up, I never stayed up. It;'s a choice and I would wake up and check on her if she meows or does not come sleep on my bed, but I know that if I put an alarm several times a night, I am not good for anything. I did it as a resident and as a yound mom and I know how I function (or not, rather!) with mnot enough sleep.
Blues are safe. Greens too. You want to see more of them, don't be afraid of them :bighug: once they start showing, it gets very addictive, now if Bella is in the 90s or in blues I panic ;)

Look at that lovely blue In last night‘s cycle. That was an exciting reward for you, Heike

I’m glad the two of you are managing with the poking and I’m glad you are listening to your body and getting rest when you need to. I’m sorry you get sick at this time each year. A lot of people do.
I hope you can get a good night’s rest and maybe you’ll feel a little bit better in the morning. Don’t forget to drink lots of fluids :)

I keep hoping her skin is going to look better, but I guess we’re not there yet. Did you post anything on the Facebook group and did anyone have any suggestions there?
I guess Binie just needs to heal at her own pace.

Ivy and I send lots of hugs and good wishes for healing to both of you this evening :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Heike.
I love Binie's blue  Glad she's peeing less and feels better!
Sorry, your cold got worse. Happy you will rest up and you are taking care of yourself.
Sending healing vibes to you both and safe surfing, Binie! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hope you feel better, Heike. Nothing I hate worse than a bad cold.

just to echo others, I don’t think you missed a reduction at all. You’re doing great with the pokes. It is a big adjustment seeing blanks in the spreadsheet after so long using your libre. Take care of yourself!

Thank you so much Staci! :bighug::kiss::bighug: Yes, I did ask in the Libre group but I was not really convinced by the answer. They said it is caused by overshaving and any allergical reaction would have happened the first time I used the skin tac. That is not really logical to me, because allergical reactions usually develop over time. But I think I can just wait and see now. After her skin healed completely, I will make another try with the libre without any skin tac. And I will be much more careful with shaving and leave stubbles on. If that works, I might try some skin glu next time and so on. Even though it sucks a lot, it might have helped Binie and me to get better with the poking. I am a bit sad I can not use the libre with the Iphone now. My father is coming over Christmas and stays at my sisters house and it would have been very relaxing to stay there AND watch Binies numbers. But I rented a car so I can always drive home quickly and take another test. It is like it is.... Hope you have a great day! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thank you so much Madeline! :bighug::bighug::bighug: Yes, exciting to see blue and also scary without the libre... And yes, quite a challenge to take care of oneself and a diabetic kitty! Hope you have a great day! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Not sure about that, but if that can help you feel less stressed, I am happy!

Hi Cecile, it does! I see you doing such a great job with Bella and it is good to hear from someone like you that it is not only o.k. but also necessary to take care of oneself too. And that blue and green numbers are nothing to be scared of. It will take me some time though... Hope you have a great day! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thank you so much Seth! :bighug::bighug::bighug: I feel much more comfortable with the pokes now. It's as you said, a process. Thank you so much for your constant encouragement! I just see Bell had a super long string of greens!!!!! Wohooooo! Best news today! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D

because allergical reactions usually develop over time
This is correct. There may be a first time reaction if there is cross reaction with some other substance with which there has already been exposure but otherwise there is usually at least one and can be several prior sensitizing exposures. There are some things are so allergenic (for instance some contrast used for X-rays ) that some people may have a reaction on the first exposure, and I don’t know if rosin is one (Colleen makes note to see if violinists have such allergies)
