What do ya'll recommend for food for a diabetic cat that also addresses UTI health? I just spent all day at the vet with Rudy for cystitis to only hear from them that the only food options I could give him is Royal Canin Urinary SO because it's formulated to make his pee more acidic to combat the sugar crystals. She recommends I stop what I'm currently feeding: Tiki cat LC wet supplemented with Northwest Naturals freeze dried raw (mixed with water of course). When I brought up to her that prescription diets are full of chemicals and grain byproduct, she didn't have ANY recommendations for food that is both safe for diabetic cats AND crystals in urine. Help!

As it turns out, one week after Neko's diabetes diagnosis, Theo her partner in crime, got his first cystitis episode. :banghead:. I tried feeding him of urinary vet food, but she just pushed him out of the way and tried to eat it. I got tired of being cat bowl cop and asked his vet what food I could give him that worked for both cats. Her answer was raw food. Later on I found out that low carb and low phosphorus food with plenty of water added was what he really needed, and it turned out to be good for Neko too. https://catinfo.org/feline-urinary-tract-diseases/ Plenty of water was key to flushing out his crystals. I primarily served raw, not freeze dried, to both. I also gave him some supplements for his bladder wall (Cosequin and later hyaluronic acid/Hyaflex brand) and put some Feliways around the house. After I got the water ratio right, he didn't have another episode.
