Instructions for starting the OTJ trial
Start the trial on the next green pre shot.
If he/she is green at your normal test times, no need to test further until the next "PS" time; just feed small meals and go about your day. If he/she is blue at your normal "PS", feed a small meal and test again after about 3 or 4 hours. If his/her number is lower 3-4 hours after a meal, then the pancreas is working!
Post every day so we can monitor your progress and see if any tweaks are needed. He/she may have a sporadic blue number. Don't panic but post before you decide whether to shoot so we can have a discussion.
After 14 days of no insulin, we have a party!!
Sometimes the trial doesn't work the first time and we have to give a little more support in the form of resuming insulin. It's not the end of the world if that happens; we just give him/her the support needed. Our goal is a strong remission and it's better to take our time to get that than to rush into remission just to have it fail later on.
    Good luck with the trial!!!
Once he/she is through the trial successfully, you enter a new phase. Your cat is still diabetic but has now become diet-controlled. Continue feeding low carb food in the manner successful for your kitty. If you decide to change his/her feeding schedule, let your meter be your guide to the best times to feed. Avoid medications with sugar in them and steroid medications unless they are medically essential. Continue testing blood glucose weekly for the first month and then monthly forever. It's a good idea to weigh him/her monthly. Weight should remain stable. If he/she seems "off" or sick, or is showing signs of diabetes (excessive drinking, eating, urinating, weight loss), test his/her blood glucose right away. Keep the teeth and gums clean and healthy; dental issues can bring a cat out of remission. If you see rising blood glucose numbers, it's time for a visit to the vet!

So if tomorrow night, Cole's pre-shot is green, then you would start the trial!:D If blue, shoot as usual and wait to start OTJ trial with the next green preshot.

Instead of posting AMPS, you would post "AMBG" because you aren't shooting insulin. "date Cole AMBG ## OTJ Trial Day X".

    Yay!:bighug:

There is the drop dose before you start an OTJ trial. Count how many drops in your .1 to decide if you should try it first. Exciting!:D Yes

Elise about the drop dose, I was told when you try a drop dose to push down on the syringe all the way and then put the syringe into the syringec and then let go
Is this correct or is it better to count drops
    Thank you :cat:

Yes. That’s correct. I suggested she count the drops in her .1 because everyone’s is different and sometimes it turns out you can half it for the last dose. Shiloh is doing that with Gideon but he did have a lot of blue bg readings. With Cole being all green if her dose is already almost nothing she could go right to the trial.

I checked and the dose is almost nothing and Cole has had no blues even at the .1u. I think unless something changes (anti-jinx) I would try the trial starting tomorrow night - tomorrow morning would be cycle 14.

    Sound ok @tiffmaxee ?

Thanks Elise - just so I’m sure ... 2 more cycles for good measure will be tonight (cycle 13) and tomorrow morning (cycle 14) and then start if Cole is green at the next shot time after that. Or do you mean 2 more cycles beyond cycle 14? :)

Today is day 6. So if still green, you would start the trial on Wednesday.

Cole remains in the lagoon tonight. Not sure if he's feeling very well today - a lot of coaxing to eat, and slept most of the day upstairs on the bed, First time in months that he would not come when I called him for his test. Fingers crossed that he's feeling better tomorrow.

Shot .1u - cycle 13 to finish up day 6.

Have a good night all :cat:
