Amps 316
Yellow bounce last night after a nice lower cycle yesterday am cycle. Stinky pinky amps today. Already going lower, close to +2

Do we think adding some +9% if she drops 100 points or over before or around +2 is a good idea or save the higher carbs for if she drops lower, say under 50 (on handheld meter) to reduce bouncing?
Or, do I just let her drop 100 points and let her settle where she lands?
Safe surfing to all. :cat:

I didn't want to keep commenting on Kona's post so I came here.

I don't think you should just ride it out when she plummets like that. Here's why. Looking at her history, it seems to cause what looks bouncing to me. The trick with her will be checking her BG sooner than at +1 because she doesn't plummet daily. I think checking her at .25 or so may give you an idea if she is going to drop significantly. Then, manipulating her bg if it is decreasing quickly with higher % food. It will require tweaking on your end. If she is significantly affected by carbs, start off small amounts and increase with the amount and % accordingly. Does that make sense?

Oh, I didn't realize she has tried increasing the carb percentage to prevent the significant drop before. I don't see that info on the spreadsheet. By all means, of it just raises without helping even her out, then I wouldn't give the higher carb food either. I would ride it out in that situation too.

Hi Staci,
Ivy had a lovely AM cycle yesterday, so a little bumpy ride now ;)
You are doing a great job tweaking her carbs to manage BGs - not an easy task!
Hope Ivy keeps sliding down (gently, girl, gently!) and stays down.
Have a great day, Staci! :bighug:

I just want to clarify that by let it ride, I mean to let her eat her tsp of the standard 6% carb food you make her to keep her going vs. the higher 9.25% and keep testing. I think often giving her the 9.25% bumps her back up instead of keeping her cruising nicely in the blues and then hopefully greens. :D
I fed her that 1/4 tsp earlier of 9.25%. It gave her a bump for around 20/25 minutes then she dropped again.
Now, at +2.75 she’s down to 130 on Libre.
I am able to see exactly where she is @Basic's Mom since she has a Libre device. Even at +25. (24/7 I can see her BG’s)

We want her in overall lower BG’s, but it’s the big bounces she does….

She will get a short bump from the higher carb but resume her drop. I’m still trying to keep the big drops from causing big spikes later in the cycle.
Not there yet. She’s a real bouncer.
Thanks to you both for your thoughts :bighug::bighug:

Yea. She’s breaking last night’s bounce. She’s not subtle in drops or bounces. We know that. Still playing with what will get her to lower bgs and not give the big spikes later in the cycle.
It’s not about the immediate spike she gets, just a tiny temporary bump, then she resumes her descent.
I hope Mikan has a lovely and calm cycle today, Kit :bighug::bighug::bighug:

¼ teaspoon isn't much though. Maybe try more next time. Basic was dropping fast last night. His t of 13% didn't do much. His tablespoon of 14% helped though.

I would keep tweaking this carb increase before giving up on trying it out. In theory, this should help even her out.

I am not sure if today is the only day you've tried this or there is a history of trying it. I thought from your comments to me and Bhooma, you'd never tried doing this before.

Anywho...those are my thoughts on it.

Hope you and Ivy have a relaxing day.

*Editing to add: if increasing the amount that you give doesn't.work, increase the percentage of carbs.

I would give her only the 6% unless she is lower on the handheld meter, or if you need to be out for a long time and have a good reason to think she might get below 50 on the handheld meter. Just my 2 cts but you already know what I think ;)

How often are you feeding her? Every hour usually in the first hours of each cycle?
It's nice to see her stay in blue numbers longer now.

For everyone reading this thread or my comments, that may think this suggestion came from me, it did not. I don't know enough about this disease to know this. I'm glad I came across the information though. I think it could help many cats that aren't regulated that have significant drops.

Hi Cecile, I do feed her a 2 tsp 6% snack tsp +1,2,3 am cycle and +1 to +5 pm cycle, the 1.5 tbsp at +6 both cycles. (All 6%)

Thanks for your thoughts!! :bighug:

Thanks, Sybil. I have tried different strategies with Ivy. But your suggestions and research is great. I’m sure it differs with each cat, ECID. I’m still trying to figure out how best to tame the steep drops and the huge pink and the Red bounces. Even after a year. :bighug::bighug:

I agree with all you said, Sybil. Hope we help everyone by discussing this.

Morning Staci, nice blues so far, I hope Ivy continues to surf in nice blue and greens , please Ivy no more high spikes :bighug: Hope you have a nice day Staci :bighug::bighug::bighug::cat:
Thanks, Diane. She’s definitely working the dose. Just need to lose the bounces after her lower escapades. Have a nice day :bighug::cat::bighug:

Pmps 240
Big bounce to 316 at +1
+3 197
Guess we are bouncing from a lower cycle today. Hide the trampoline please :stop:
