12/4 Herman amps 97 +3 101 +7 88 unhappy cat :( pmps 180 +6 90

Well….the joy was short-lived. I don’t know what “snapped” with Herman but he went from cheerful to aggressive feral in the span of an hour. I can’t get within 10 feet of him without him yowling, growling, hissing then running away. This is the most aggressive I’ve ever seen him. A symptomatic hypo is where my brain goes first. Did he drop dangerously low after he finally pooped earlier today? There is 0 chance of getting within 10’ let alone testing so I have left portions of hc gravy around the house and outside. I have seen him eating. I will keep giving hc until I can confirm his BG is safe. I am 2 hours away from pmps. Unless something changes in him dramatically I will not be able to give insulin let alone test.
…if this is not a symptomatic hypo (…he has shown aggression when dropped or near 50 before so that’s where I get the assumption from)….has he just decided he’s “had enough”?
I’ve had a pretty brutal weekend aside from this…is he picking up on my anxiety and nerves? feeling pretty :blackeye:

I hope he settles down and lets you test him later…you are doing good leaving food out, it’s all you can do. I’m glad he ate it.

Oh no! I’m so sorry Herman is out of sorts, whatever the reason. Do keep us posted. I hope the weekend improves for BOTH of you, and soon. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Yikes, that’s scary! Glad he is eating the HC you left out! I hope it allows him to settle down and feel more like himself so you can at least get near him. Try not to worry about missing his shot, you’re doing everything you can to keep him safe.

Also so sorry to hear your weekend has been rough… it seems like cat crises often somehow happen when we are already beaten up :(

Sending hugs to both of you :bighug::bighug::bighug:

finally got a test....super high...not surprised though he has had 2 entire cans of 25% gravy over the last 3 hours and he is BEYOND STRESSED OUT. He is obviously calmer now as I was able to approach him, still hissing and growling but I assume too exhausted to run away so I gave him a BCS of 0.1 (in the scruff - not sure how I managed to get it in to him, might have been partial fur shot to be honest).
But he is safe, for now. Now to figure out what happened today - I may never know. If his numbers are high over the next couple days I might suspect he did go low but no way to know for sure.
Thanks all for the support - hope my Herm forgives me and gets back to his normal self.

What an ordeal. I’m so relieved to hear that he’s back in the safe zone. He’s not even that high considering the amount of HC he ate!
Hope both of you can rest this evening and recover from todays craziness.

Was he outside today at all? Could he have had a run in with wildlife that would have left him in this intense angry state?
He was outside, but not unsupervised. I took him for a walk, he finally took a big poop so we were excited, he was happy, he came inside with me and got a snack and within an hour when I next walked by him he was a terror (he hadn’t been outside again). He’s still got some residual grumpiness going on but he’s much more normal now. Giving him a break from pokes since he was high. Maybe something internally hurts him. I will monitor him closely the next few days.

Ugh……He got aggressive again. Freaked out if I walked anywhere near him. From +4 - +6 Yowling and hissing. :blackeye: Put out 15% carb and left him alone. 20 minutes later he came to me on his own at +6 and is now more relaxed resting next to me and even letting me groom him so I got a test. 90. Did the 15% carb bump his numbers up to where he felt comfortable? To be at 90 after 15% makes me think he couldn’t have been low enough to affect him but who knows. I am inclined to give him some higher carb than usual tonight in case it was low numbers causing the crazy behaviour. Otherwise, perhaps a pain response is responsible for the aggression….

From everything you are saying, I would also suspect a symptomatic hypo episode too… He’s lucky to have such a devoted mama, I hope he rewards you by going off the juice sooner rather than later :bighug::bighug::bighug:
Thanks, all I kept thinking today is that I can’t treat him if he’s like this…then what?!? Poor guy.

Do you have a non-diabetic cat? If so, I might test that cat just to confirm a “normal cat” reading on your meter. I’m sure the meter is fine but I always like to rule out the outlier possibilities (such as a human meter reading higher when in normal range than most human meters, or a wonky batch of test strips), especially since Herman was so aggressive and agitated. If by chance another cat ran in the 70s, then that might give you a more realistic target “normal” for your meter.

Again, not likely there’s a problem with your meter. Just thinking outside the box in an effort to be thorough. Poor Herman. Obviously something was bothering him.

(do you think the size/volume of the poop might have been painful to pass?? Or that it was incomplete?)

I don’t have another cat to test but I have multiple meters (all the same kind), 1 upstairs, 1 downstairs, one spare I recently “retired”…
He seemed to pass his bm without much trouble (it did take him a looooong time to fund the right spot, and it was large, he hasn’t gone in days) but I’m not ruling out pain as a cause. Will see what tomorrow brings. He’s been in bed with me all night so far so that’s a good sign he is feeling better.
