2/17 Haley - OTJ Trial Day 3 - AMBG 93, PMBG 86

I tested her a third time and she was at 100, last night before bed, at +4. I wondered if she was going to go down from her PMPS.

1). Should I not have?
2). Do I need to do anything since it kicked her into the blue?

This morning, I gave her a smaller piece of tuna for her reward for doing the test. She didn't want the first flavor of cat food that I gave her. I usually give 2 flavors so they'll probably like 1. I opened another can of one she likes. My other kitty came by to eat it. I don't know if she ignored that food or if her bully brother scared her away. So, she didn't eat breakfast. She is one to walk away from her food if she doesn't like it. $

3). Should I be concerned that she didn't eat breakfast?
4). What is considered a small meal?
5). How often should I offer her small meals?

Thanks!

100 isn't bad...just give her a little more time...watch the trends at AM and PM pre-shots (although you're not shooting)...let's just see how she does over the next few days.

Does she graze? She may come back to her food if you leave it down...let her be her own guide to eating... try putting something else more to her liking down. Luci will turn up her nose at several foods - especially if I have been offering that flavor too much! She'll usually come back to it if I don't give in and offer something else.

Ok about the 100. I don't have them graze because Valentino will eat it all. He has IBD and is always hungry. I give him extra. They get hungry about every four hours so I feed them on a schedule. Haley usually will eat one of the two I give her but now I don't want to give her too much. I suppose I should have given her a little of each. I gave her 1/4 of a Fancy Feast can. Is that too much? Sometimes, Haley will go on her cat tree and want me to bring her food there. If she doesn't eat right away, she usually does in a few minutes except for today but she didn't like the one flavor I first gave her.

1). Should I not have tested her a third time? Should I just do the AMPS and the PMPS if I'm wondering how she's doing?
2). Should I be concerned that she didn't eat breakfast at all?

Ty so much!

A lot of cats have a few low blue numbers during an OTJ trial. As long as they bring their numbers back down to green it is okay. During the trial it is only required that you test at shot times and a few hours later if you see blue. By the way, when you're not giving insulin it is AMBG and PMBG.

As far as eating, there are times when a cat is picky and doesn't want to eat. It should be fine as long as she eats later. Since you're not giving insulin you don't have to worry about her going too low. I free feed Furball so it's harder for me to give advice on the size of meals. I think a small meal would be considered about 1/4 of a can of food. You could try feeding her regular meal at shot time and a small meal about 3 hours later.

Happy Day 3! :):cat::D

Thanks for correcting me. I'll fix it.

I'm confused. You said, "During the trial it is only required that you test at shot times and a few hours later if you see blue" and "You could try feeding her regular meal at shot time." But they don't get shots during the trial. Am I missing something?

She just came out of hiding and ate.

Ty, Carla!

Sometimes Wesson will take a few bites and walk away. I started sprinkling a little of the Pure Bites on top and it gets him back to finish his meal ;) Do not know what I would have done without the Pure Bites.

At times all of my kitties are fussy except Valentino. He has IBD so he'll eat anything. I sometimes sprinkle on Fortiflora probiotics. They love it!
