I unfortunately gave a fur shot last night UGH…very frustrating because his numbers had been flat 400’s all day yesterday. He really needed that dose. I didn’t test last night (giving his ears a break and because of the FS).

Then this morning I noticed little amounts of pee everywhere (including on his bed) and based on how he’s acting today (spasms, licking and peeing small amounts every few minutes), I believe he has a bladder infection. Vet can’t see him until tomorrow morning.

So I expected his sugar to go even higher today with both a fur shot last night and an infection, and instead the +4 was 277! Down 200 points from the AMPS. I don’t get it? Is this good? Bad? Neither? Will he get symptoms from such a big fluctuation? Should I test more this cycle?

If you can, grab a +5, if it’s past +5 test now and see where he’s at.

I missed the 5 hour but the +6 is 245. He’s also been starving. Eating pretty much non stop and searching the floor for crumbs despite me giving extra food.
Insulin is required to convert food into usable energy and transport that energy to all the cells of your cats body. With numbers running high that process is interrupted, so a kitty will look for food in an effort to get the energy needs met.

Yes, I understand that and he generally has a big appetite but I just meant it was a lot more extreme this morning. I’m wondering if the drop was the reason. Any thoughts as to why it’s down 200 points despite no insulin last night and a UTI?

Yes, sometimes kitties seek out food when they drop sharply. Lantus is a depot insulin, so a skip/furshot or a partial furshot will drain the depot to some extent, but there is still a depot that will affect numbers.
