When you are increasing as aggressively as you are, you want to get at least 1 test per cycle in addition to the PS.
 
Oh ok, I think I misunderstood. I'm glad you said that, then, and I'll make the trip (it's about 20ish minutes each way). I do want to make sure she's safe. Btw, Dr Elseys is sending us a sample too so it will be a battle of the foods lol. I'm interested to see which one will get her vote.:cat:
 
Feeling hopeless with these numbers again. And now the vet who was prescribing her insulin is giving issues refilling her prescription because it's been almost a year since she last saw him, whereas before that was never an issue. She gets so stressed out going to the vet; it's ridiculous. I am going to see about having the vet she has more recently seen prescribe it since I like her better anyway and would like to continue using her as the primary vet instead. Do you all ever have problems with your refills and vets just trying to get extra money out of you? She uses the pens and I've always given her one pen a month, but have heard you can really use them longer despite the 28-day thing from the manufacturer.
 
I've always had issues too with pharmacies. Like not understanding you don't need the needle things that go on the pen because you use a syringe instead; not understanding you dont care if the generic is cheaper, you want the actual Lantus and yes, you are aware how much it costs. :eek: It's almost always a pain every time I have to get a refill.

You can usually use pens to the last drop if stored properly. You want to store in the fridge (not in the door but inside). I have used pens for months. Every pen to the last drop without the insulin going bad.
 
I read online a comment once from a woman who was diabetic and she said she could feel the difference after 28 days, so that initially made me a bit nervous, and something else I've wondered is how do you know if when they have higher numbers, if it's from a pen going bad or just something else? Seems like an extra variable to throw in there, but I'd like to use the pens longer if I can so we have to deal with the vets and pharmacies even less. I do know I've personally not seen a difference in numbers from the beginning of a pen's use to the end (a smidge after the 28 days). I think I'll try using her current pen longer and see how it works out.

When in doubt, you use a new pen but don't throw away the old. If it's not the insulin, you can always go back and finish the old pen. I've done this as well :-)
