Re: 2/8 Blackie AMPS-137,+3-304

I don't blame you for being frustrated. I know I would be too. Could he have gotten into some high carb food somehow? I'm guessing probably now, that it's more likely Blackie's body fighting against low, healthy numbers.

I don't know much about either condition, but maybe Blackie has acromegaly or that condition in which the body fights against insulin? I think it's called IAA? Black Kitty (now OTJ) had/has it.

Hopefully others with more knowledge of this can chime in. Given the high doses you've been giving Blackie for so long - and barring outside "interference" (access to high carb foods) - there must be something up else with him internally.

At least Blackie is doing well otherwise and sounds pretty happy - best he remain ignorant of his internal struggle for as long as possible while you and your mom try to get it figured out and resolved.

I'm very sure he has no access to high carb food. He rebounds all the time after he gets a low number so I'm used to it but its gone on too long. I better take him to the vet once I get some free time but I have no money.

There some stickies in the high dose forum about acromegaly and IAA that might be of interest to you, if you haven't seen them already.

I wonder if Blackie is a candidate for R (a type of insulin) for use in conjunction with Lantus? I'm certainly no expert in that, but have seen it recommended for cats with very high BGs (e.g., Buddy of Jan & Buddy). It seems that Lantus isn't as effective with very high BGs, so the R helps to bring the BG down so that Lantus can take hold.

I don't know if it would be applicable for Blackie given his tendency to drop in the 100s and then rebound as opposed to never dropping. But maybe you could ask for help with that.
