Good Morning LL!

Last night recap
PMPS 102 (delayed by 15 min)
+1 133
+2 146
+3 175
+4 189
+10 211

WCR: Woke up at +10 to find Six sitting on the desk with his testing supplies and almost empty snakus jar (lid still closed). Hmmm...wonder what he was doing? ;-) Every once in a while I will find the snakus jar on the floor - an obvious desperate attempt to get it open under the cover of dark. He was seriously chillin' before AMPS. Not a bad bounce...expected it to go much higher. I'll have DH grab a +1. I won't be home until +11 today. Will leave out plenty of food...Six loves it when I leave him extra food. Oink oink.

WBR: Another winter storm coming through tonight...paws and fingers crossed for a snow day tomorrow. This kitty is doing a snow dance for me. dancing_cat Come on Mother Nature!

Re: 2/8 Six's AMPS 245

Amy, I think this is the first time I stopped by Six's Condo. It looks like you are starting to see some action on that 3.0 unit dose. Way to go Six.

Re: 2/8 Six's AMPS 245

Good morning, Amy & Six! I had to smile to myself about Six playing with testing supplies.
I free hand with the lancet & I have the box opened in the bathroom - I find that Baby loves to bat those things around like they are going out of style - I fnd her just being overall cute with the micro meter & testing stuff.. It is like she knows they have everything to do with her. I hope Six shows you some good #s this week

Re: 2/8 Six's AMPS 245

Hey! Six is a growing boy! Of course he needs lots and lots of foods left for him! And snacks! Plenty of snacks needed too!

It is such a relieve when they get better numbers than you expected, that they don't bounce to the moon. It is those times when you realize that they are coming around nicely, and it is you that is the fraidy cat!

I hope Six has an awesome day, full of pretty numbers and lots of food!

Serves me right for being optimistic! Here's the bounce I was expecting this morning. Hope it clears soon.

Yes, my worries have led to an slowly increasing belly. How does one leave enough food for the day in a multi-cat (7) household for the worst case scenario situation for Six (low numbers while I'm gone at work)? ALL the cats love the current situation.

I noticed today on other posts and something Helene said yesterday in my post leads me to pose this question.

I thought I was to test, feed and then shoot. I think I am basing this on our old routine with Humilin which does require food when giving a shot. Do cats have to eat at the time they receive their Lantus shot?

I believe as long as it's within a 15min time frame.

the standard is test, feed, shoot all within 15 min

Some of us learned to do this all within 5 minutes, even shooting while they are eating... myself - I never thought I could shoot Luna while he ate, but yup I sure could.

Re: 2/8 Six's PMPS 364

Here's my logic and what I do.

We are not supposed to feed for 2hours prior to the shots, so in my mind, I would test to get that real number, then shoot, then feed.
When people try to raise a low number they feed, and some cats will come up quickly. I don't really know if Shadoe is one of them, so I have everything ready, give her shot, and then put down the plate of food.

She knows what I am doing too; I lay it all out on a table, meter with strip half in, jabber, syringe with insulin, and bowl of food.

She sits nice, we test, we shoot, and she then eats.
It's all within about 1 minute, but that's my order and logic.

I had thought that the pre-shot test could be no more than 15min before the shot, and there should be no food eaten for 2 hours prior to that pre-shot.

Re: 2/8 Six's PMPS 364

I test, feed & shoot while eating.. I will admit.. I was a bit nervous about this.. because I read a post in the beginning of visiting LL & someone said that their kitty stopped eating because he/she associated the food with the shot... however.. Baby does not even notice me giving her the shot & she sure does not care. She definitely knows.. because some of the best advice I ever got was.... to not try & "sneak" the shot.. but to let her know what's up.. there was a certain level of trust then... so I show her the syringe.. let her sniff it & then I shoot quickly...

yuck!!!!!!! yuck!!!!!!yuck!!!!! he's feeling it. sleepy tonight.

gonna go to bed and hopefully wake up to enough snow for a snow day (and seriously lower AMPS). will all the kitties in LL do a snow dance for me? pretty please with chicken dust on top? we've only had one this year...sure could use another one. i promise to only have a mini-poke-a-thon if we have a snow day tomorrow. does that help?

re: timing and shot. ok, you all confirmed what i thought i should be doing. thanks. he's easy-peasy lemon squeezy...it's the other kitties i have to negotiate!

Baby, Sadi & I are all doing the Snow Dance, Sister!

Squeezeable Kitty came by to send you snow day snowflakes!

By the way, we test, shoot and then feed. I think that's what Jill told us. But it's all within about 20 minutes. We also give an early snack at +2-ish. Seems to ward off big drops.

Hope you get to go back to bed in the morning! :-D
