? 22.04 Chico 130@AMPS; 63@ 1.5; 70@2 - dive even with honey :(

We need help. Chico keeps on having these dives at +1, +1.5 even with honey but on the other hand very high preshots... Next week i won't be home so i would really like to have a plan for DB to manage it on his own

When is it too much effort to stop him from diving? On the other hand we don't have a lot of space left for decrease :( he is clearly not ready for OTJ but we kind of feel trapped to reduce whenever he dives under 50

Very bad timing for me not be home :( i feel that i leave a changing pattern solely on DBs responsibility

Thank you very much for any help

Hi Marina,
What are you feeding at AMPS?
He obviously is not getting a food bump from the food.
It might be worth trialing some higher carb food at preshot and again at +1 to try and stop the fast drop.

You still have 0.25, 0.1 and a drop to go so a few more options but he hadn’t earned a decrease yet.

We feed raw only because of his tummy problems, we use honey to increase carb content. Marje came with the idea to spread the food between PS, +1 and +2 more evenly, we want to try that and we will try to add honey to the preshot as well just to try to give him a food bump. Thank you for the idea.

We are in no rush to decrease again, it was a mere question to how much effort is too much effort to keep him up.

Thank you very much for your input, it is very very appreciated :bighug:

I think it is a good idea to spreads the food over the preshot and first couple of hours too.
I feed raw diet as well and used to add honey to Shebas food to add carbs when she dropped low.
He is doing well for a newly diagnosed kitty. You are wise not to rush the reductions. You want him to have a strong remission if he gets there.

Hi Marina, I know you are trying to resolve Chico’s tummy issues with the raw food but perhaps you could find a medium carb food that you can mix into the raw that would be longer lasting and more effective against the drops than honey. You could try mixing just a spoonful of something he might like to eat to bring up the carb content without too much spiking? Just an idea. :bighug:

Thank you Bron, we are happy with his progress overall, he is a easily manageable cat so we really can't complain about it :)

We are trying our best but every time when we relax a bit he surprises us with a drop :D i guess that is what they like to do do keep us alert :)

i see what you mean there, the HC food would keep him higher for a bit longer and it would really help his BG, but for now i cannot imagine introducing back any commercial food :( we still didn't manage to tackle his diarrhea even with a single protein, i am afraid that introducing commercial food in the equation would bring in too many unknowns. maybe later when he will be better. the duck he ruined all the progress we made with turkey :(

DB saw your message and he said he was thinking the same thing as you :)

Thank you for the idea :bighug:

You are using the EZ Comfort aren't you? What is your meat of choice? Turkey, beef, chicken?
When giving him chicken we used chicken bones and liver, now when we are moving to other proteins we started using Felini complete, which is the local alternative for EZ. Up until now we tried chicken, then turkey, duck and now we are on rabbit. Chico loved duck but it is way too fat and our vet said that for his tummy issues we should chose proteins that are low fat. So after duck we started considering that fat is what causes his diarrhea and we moved on to rabbit.

Have you started feeding raw?

I got my sample (actually two) of EZ Comfort. I mixed one up yesterday with cooked, ground beef (4.5 oz) because that was all I had. I forgot to incorporate it into her breakfast but will do so in her +6 meal. They say to start with 1/2 teaspoon. Hard to believe Susie would even notice something in that small amount but I'll see. Beef is not my first choice. I would like to use ground turkey but didn't have any. I don't think Susie will accept a semi-raw diet as she will not eat anything other than cat food and PureBite treats. Oh, and Temptations. She goes nuts for them but I rarely ever give her any because they are high carb. At least I have a high carb treat that she loves if I ever need to get her to eat something.
