3/26 Pumpkin AMPS 342 +4 307 +6 300 PMPS 314 +2 294

Yesterday was a bit wonky in the end. PMPS 331 +2 318 +3 339. I was unexpectedly awake so I got a rare PM+8 at 316. I didn't get the AM+6 because I'm a bit under the weather.

Anyway, the pre-shot numbers do appear to be creeping down on average, but we still aren't getting much of a nadir. On to 4.5 after one more cycle.
I hope you feel better soon!
When looking at numbers, you want to factor in a 15-20% meter variance. So 320 is not very different from 350. He is flat and high and possibly seeing some glucose toxicity.

Final cycle at 4U this morning unless Pumpkin manages to really surprise me.
I would go up to 4.5U tonight unless he gives you a low yellow in which case I would still go up to 4.25U.

Remind me why he is on the z/d? Isn't that 35% carbs?

About a year ago she ended up in the hospital from non-stop vomiting. After a bunch of tests the best we could come up with was a food allergy (she's always had a scarf and barf tendency even before this episode), so we moved her to a 100% hydrolyzed protein diet. We didn't get around to trying food challenges to get her off the hydrolyzed protein until after her diagnosis.

After the diagnosis, I tried a limited ingredient food, but ended up getting more vomiting than I was comfortable with. So, next step was single ingredient foods to really take it one step at a time. I settled on Tiki Cats luau chicken, which is nice because it's just chicken plus vitamins/minerals. But, it's 0% carbs. I've been gradually shifting more and more of her diet to the Tiki Cats, and we're now down to 5% ME from carbs. I've been a bit paranoid about going to zero carbs because I'm away from home for 10-12 hours at a time three days a week. But, I'm continuing to inch it down.

I have a hunch that peas were the issue, so I may try a different food that naturally has small amount of carbs from a different source, possibly in combination with the Tiki Cats to keep the overall percentage low. But, the terrible ingredients aside, the nice thing about the z/d is that I have a year track record of Pumpkin tolerating it very well. I really don't want a diabetic cat to get into another non-stop vomiting episode.

Continuing to trend in the right direction today. Everything's near 300, breaking through to high yellows in the PM cycle. (I know there's meter variance, but four readings near 300 are progress compared to two weeks ago when the readings were all near 350).

Since Pumpkin aren't consistently into the yellows and only ever high yellows, I've increased to 4.5U. I'm thinking/hoping we should be getting close to a breakthrough, but we'll see over the next few days.

Thanks for explaining this. Do you mix the Tiki Cat and the Z/D? Or do you feed them separately at different points in the cycle? Chicken is supposed to be a common allergen so it's surprising that she is tolerating it well. Like you said, maybe it's the peas.

Good luck with the new dose :-) If you don't get blues in 3 days/6 cycles, you want to consider another increase.

I'm mixing it with the Tiki Cat, except that her final meal of the cycle is 0% carbs. I've got a little jewel scale, so I can weigh it in 0.1g increments without a problem :bookworm:.

The other thing is that Pumpkin has always needed lots of small meals throughout the day. I'm slowly moving more of her calories to the beginning of the cycle. Here's what I'm about to adjust it to:
  • AM with shot: 78 calories
  • +2: 19
  • +4: 19
  • +6 19
  • +8 19 (0% carbs)
  • PM with shot: 78 calories
  • +2: 19
  • +3: 19
  • +4: 19
  • +8: 19 (0% carbs)

I'm also a bit surprised that the chicken is working so far. I had tried Instinct Limited Ingredient Rabbit, which also has peas, first. She didn't react well to it, and the common ingredient with her previous foods was peas. I'm not 100% ready to believe we won't eventually have a problem with the chicken, so I also have a turkey option on standby in case I run into issues.
