So Gremlin had his dental today. All precautions were taken and he came out of it! I'm both amazed and relieved.

He's had most of his teeth removed, he only has his canines and incisors at the front left. The back teeth were all badly cracked and/or broken. His teeth were basically dissolving so they had to dig them out which means there may be shards left. Hopefully they don't cause any problems later on. There is a small mass on his gum but Kirrilly, the vet, doesn't think it's too serious as it's not been fast growing. She did take a sample we can have tested, just in case. Otherwise, all good!

He's home now but he's not eating very well. He gagged when he tried and isn't trying anymore. I've tried to syringe feed him but even watered down Fancy Feast pate is still too lumpy for him. My poor baby... Does anyone know if Tiki Cat Mousse sachets are okay for diabetics? It's much smoother than FF pate. Although his BGL was low this evening and he's not eating so a bump up may not be so bad.

I'm so glad the dental went well and Grem made it though. I hope he feels better soon and will eat for you. Do you have any meat only baby food? I don't know what they sell in Australia, but here we can buy it. You don't want any other ingredients, like onions or garlic. They are bad for cats. Sending prayers for a quick recovery. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

I'll have to check the supermarket for baby food which means leaving Gremlin alone. It's after 8pm here so I really don't want to go out.

HE JUST ATE SOME LIQUIDISED FOOD OUT OF THE BOWL WITHOUT TOTALLY GAGGING!!!! He was clearly starving. I gave him the completely smooth food (that is perhaps no good for his diabetes and CKD but any food is better than none) mixed with water and he did it! He did have a slight gag and spit at the end but he got more in than I have been able to syringe feed him. Yay!! Progress!

Oh, I am so relieved to hear this about Gremlin! My heart is literally feeling lifted at this news! Some happy news! I really needed that this morning! He is such a strong boy. Many thanks to your vet for being willing to perform this procedure! When he gets over this rough patch (and I hope it will not be too long) I hope he will feel so much better! So many exclamation marks in one message! That’s because your post has made me so happy, Laura! As to food. The priority is to get any food into him. Whatever he can eat. Then you can get his BG back where you want it. Does the vet have any recovery type foods? Around here, I would use Hill’s A/D but I don’t know what’s available in Australia. And it’s not super low carb.

Oh! Hooray! Progress indeed! Go Grem go! Poor boy was so hungry (but that appetite is a GREAT sign!). I LOVE ❤️ this news!

Okay, so apparently the Tiki Cat Mousse food is perfectly fine for diabetes as his blood glucose is still dropping, even though I didn't give him any insulin at tea time (thank goodness!)... I will try to get him to have some gravy now but this is concerning. I may have to try to rouse myself through the night, though I'm exhausted!!

I am hoping that skipping will help since he doesn’t have a large depot since he’s on such a low dose of insulin. You already know that you will still have to check on him though because of the limited eating . Do you have gravy he can lick up?

I managed to scrape some gravy out of a tin and give him that. He LOVED it and wanted more.
I'm so exhausted. I hate having chronic fatigue syndrome... And I HAVE to work tomorrow! I'm not sure how I'm going to be able to function.

Yay!!! So very happy to hear the dental went well! ❤️ I sure hope they gave you pain meds to give him for the next few days. His mouth is gonna be pretty sore for awhile but hopefully he heals up quickly and all the pawing at the mouth will end.

If she didn’t give insulin does she still need to worry about blood sugar getting too low?

Well, it's already tomorrow morning there. I'm sure Laura has got it under control. She's a pro!
