We have seen some good numbers from Charlie in the last few days! Still bouncing but they aren't lasting too long. Seeing quite a bit of green makes me happy! I do worry that his dental exam and cleaning on Thursday is going to throw a wrench in all this progress. He'll be in pain and maybe not eating as much so I assume that will mess with his BG.

Now that the dental issues have been brought to my attention, I think I'm starting to notice things I didn't before. When he eats, I think he mostly eats on the left side of his mouth. Maybe because he has tooth pain. Then after eating sometimes he'll sit with his mouth slightly open... again maybe its pain. I hope this cleaning and exam sheds some light on the situation and helps him feel better!

You got a 42 a couple nights ago but didn't reduce?

The dental might also involve some extractions. The x-ray before hand should tell the story. You might want to stock up on some all meat babyfood (Beechnut or Gerbers), just meat ingredients. Kitties tend to love it and it's easy to eat if he has to have a tooth removed.

How the dental impacts BG is a couple different ways. First, they'll probably have you do a half dose in the AM of the surgery, since he might not be able to eat for a while before hand. I hope it's a morning appointment due to the diabetes. Besides the half dose, any pain can cause a temporary bump in the numbers, but that will go away once the swelling is down (about 7-10 days, depending what's done). A simple cleaning won't be much of an impact.

I really debated on reducing it or not. I thought we should reduce under 50 for newly diabetics and under 40 for older diabetics. Possibly I'm wrong. It was really close so I decided to keep holding for longer. If you think a reduction is needed, please let me know!

If he ends up getting some teeth pulled I'll get some all-meat baby food. That is a great idea! The vet said I may need to mix some water with his food to soften it up. The Weruva BFF I've just switched him to is pretty soft but does have some meaty bits in it.

First, I got an email saying that he couldn't eat after 9pm the night before. So I called to double-check and ask about insulin. They said since he is diabetic, to feed him and give him insulin like normal. I'll be dropping him off at 8AM and they said they try to get started right away.
