Evening everyone!
I hadn't realized it had been so long since I last posted. I hadn't planned on staying away, but time flies when you're having fun
, haha. I remembered today that it's Lou FD-iversary, so I thought it would be a good idea to check in. Thankfully Lou's doing beautifully, which can make it hard to find something to post. He's been regulated for the last year, but he stubbornly does not want to give up the dance. While he got down to 0.25u in January, he's back up to 1.75u at the moment and angling for an increase in the next 2 days. He's still our happy, healthy, and beautifully rascally boy and we love him more every day. Here's a couple recent pics:
It seems like the most interesting thing going on in our world at the moment is our civvie Bella's continuing weight loss. She didn't come down for breakfast a couple of weeks ago and that was so out of character for her I was certain I'd find her dead. I got her into the vet that day and found out that she's down to 6.6 pounds now.
As usual, her bloodwork comes back normal, but her urine shows she's not concentrating her urine appropriately, which is generally a sign of early kidney disease. The vet (a new one) was really worried about her muscle loss (finally!) and we scheduled an ultrasound. Her liver was brighter and her both her kidneys showed changes that may be indicative of infiltrative lymphoma. She couldn't see any nodules or tumors, nor the spleen actually. She took an x-ray to make sure it was there. At the end of the day, she said there's a 99% certainty Bella has cancer (lymphoma or carcinoma), likely either in the small intestine or the spleen. Unfortunately, our options are exploratory surgery or dealing with quality of life. I'm not sure she'd survive surgery at this point. She's likely lost too much weight/muscle. The vet was worried about giving her steroids because it might hurt more than it helps. After talking more to the vet a few days after the ultrasound, she asked if I'd be willing to bring her back for another ultrasound (on their dime) in 2-3 weeks. She wants to see if she can see the spleen this time. I'm hoping we can get some more answers, but in the meantime we're feeding her double the amount of food (she's still starving all the time) and spoiling her rotten with treats and love. We'll see. I don't know if I've ever shared a pic of my civvie, so here's Bella laying on her back (which she doesn't do much) looking cute as a button. You can tell how little she is here.
I hope you all have been doing well during this crazy time and I hope your kitties are rocking their insulin and staying away from sharks. Many hugs and good vines to all those in need.
