Good evening,
this week was really nerve wrecking. I already noticed on sunday, that Binie maybe has some itching as a side effect from the antibiotics (Cleorobe). But I was not sure if it was really from the antibiotics and it was coming and going. I also noticed, that she licked her wound more often but I didn't know, if it was coming from the antibiotics or not. So I continued to give it. During the night from tuesday to wednesday she suddenly started to lick all her body like crazy. I didn't sleep much that night. The next day I stopped the antibiotics and my vet said that is was the right thing to do. So she had 5.5 days of antibiotics instead of 7.
Besides there was a problem with the sensor and I got unexpected lows and sensor errors afterwards. Binie was really doing a good job letting me do spot checks on her ear. But I didn't wanted to go to the vet earlier because she wanted to look at the wound too and I wanted to give it time to heal.
So we went today and the wound looks worse from the ouside because of all that licking during the week. But surprisingly the pockets became much smaller and when she wanted to rinse it, there was almost no fluid going inside. We had these improvements before, so I am relieved on the one hand but on the other hand I know, that it can always go worse again. At least she was not getting steroids, what I really like to prevent.
Her bg is very often flat pink and yellow during the day and she goes down to blue numbers at night. I think she needs a little more insulin but I didn't wanted to go up last week with a wonky sensor. Strange enough, the new sensor is wonky too and if it doesn't improve, I have to go back to the vet tomorrow. I know it can be wonky in the first 24 hours but after we came home, she went down to 157 on the sensor before her shot and when I managed to test her with a handheld it was 331. So way off, we never had that before. After the shot she was shooting up again and now the numbers make sense again but I will try to do some spot tests tonight und tomorrow morning to see if we should change it or not.
To end with something positive: Binie is really an amazing patient at the moment. When I came with her box today she just got up from the couch and walked into it on her own. Incredible! And she let me do ear pricks more often. And besides the itching I think she is feeling alright at the moment. Sleepy sometimes but quite o.k.. That helps a lot.
I hope everyone has a calm and beautiful evening!
