Good morning,

after the furshot yesterday I was happy to see, that her bg didn't skyrocketed. Of course I know, that this will have an effect on the next days as well.

This morning injecting worked out fine. I tried to measure ketones directly after the shot but I couldn't get enough blood. So I tried again at 3.25 after she was lying in the sun and had very warm ears and it was 0.1 mmol/dl, which is her normal range for this time of the day.

Tonight I thought about making a third attempt to increase to 1.5 IU. The last two times I tried to go from 1.25 IU to 1.5 IU she dropped to low so the last time I decided to try 1.25 fat.Today is day seven on this dose and she is still too high and has hardly seen blue numbers the last seven days. Does going up to 1.5 tonight makes sense? I know we always increase by 0.25 but the next days we have a big heatwave and I know that makes her drop faster, so I wouldn't feel comfortable to give 1.5 fat after that experience.

Hope everyone has a relaxed sunday! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Heike, I’m so glad Binie didn’t skyrocket up after the fur shot. Her depot served her well!
I’m glad you could test for ketones, too.
Good luck once you get an answer about your dose question.

I hope you can both stay cool in the heatwave. Have a lovely day :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thank you so much Staci! The next two days the temperatures are going up to 95 F. I try to shade everything in my appartement but I think it is going to be very hot. My vet was not happy about the weather too because they have to deal with more emergencys. Just for explanation: Very few peopel here have AC, but I think that will change because the summer get hotter ever year. Actually I think about buying one next year for Binie. :cat:

Hope you have enjoyable weather today! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Oh boy that’s hot with no AC. I don’t know how you do it. We are very spoiled here and are so used to having AC.
When we travel abroad we are surprised when we find a lack of AC or it’s not as cold as we are accustomed to.
I’m sure it’s a problem for pets to get that hot. And I’m sure you are doing whatever you can to keep Binie cool. Do you use fans? and I’m sure keeping the shades down in the daytime to keep the heat out may help a little.
Sending you cool wishes, cool breezes and cooler temps soon!!

Hi Staci, yes, that is really a cultural difference! :) I use a fan but Binie doesn't like it. I tried wet towels but she hates them. So we have to sit in the dark all day, hoping the heatwave will be over soon. Yesterday my sister came through my town, coming back from her holidays in Italy. She has an older dog with heart problems so she does everything to keep her cool. Because of Binie we met in town and I found an Ice Cafe which sells ice cream for dogs. :) And look what my sister did, to keep the old girl cool on the car ride! She used wet towels and Mia loves it and snuggeld in directly. My sister has a brain tumor and sometimes I feel she is not taking enough care of herself. But for her dog, she is doing everything she can. Not only cat moms are crazy. o_O

Awww. What good care your sister is taking of Mia. I am sorry to hear of your sister’s health problems :(
I hope she will take care of herself as well. I’m sure you are very concerned about her :bighug:

It’s ashamed Binie doesn’t like a fan. Maybe if it’s not near her but just blowing the air around to keep it cooler?? (I’m sure you’ve tried everything!! )
It must be so hard to keep it cool in such heat. I can’t imagine how difficult that is. I’m sorry you have yet one more thing to deal with.
I have faith you are doing everything possible for Binie to keep her as comfortable as possible.
Cool vibes to you both!!

Hi Heike! I’m so sorry you’re having such a heat wave. I couldn’t handle it without air conditioning! I think cats like it warmer than we do, always laying in the sun! Maybe you could try putting some ice in a bag on the floor tile to get it cool where she lays. I’ve also seen some cooling mats sold at pet sites, although I’m not sure they work.
Hoping the heat breaks soon for you. We had a break for 2 days but now it’s hot as ever, 95f.
Be safe.

Thank you so much Staci for your care! :bighug::bighug::bighug: Actually we have been very lucky this summer. We had cooler and rainy days this summer most of the time and I hope that after this week the worst is over. We already have cooler days at the weekend. I think next summer I will buy a mobile AC, even though it looks horrible and the costs of energy are really an issue here. I just looked it up, our energy prices are three times as high as in the US. I could cope somehow but I don't like the stress it puts on Binie and Binies stress is my stress too.... I hope you have a relaxed day today after all that stress yesterday! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Deb, thank you so much for checking-in on us! I already brought one of these cooling mats but Binie never used them, so I gifted them to a friend with a dog. Your idea with the ice packs helped me to develop something new today: Binie made herself a kind of cave under a blanket. In summer she is only going in with her head because I think it is getting too warm. So today I was freezing a bottle of water and putted it under the blanket. And it really helped and she went inside completely. So she has her own, bit primitve, AC now. :) Thank you so much for the good idea! I also hope you manage the heat well. 95f is really tough! Hope you and Tiger have a nice day! :bighug::bighug::bighug:
