Yesterday.

I had wondered if splitting pred would change how it manages the SCL symptoms, but I would have thought oncologist would have said something if he/she (I think she?) thought that might be the case.

I think ECID. Everything is a bit trial and error. I’m not sure how many diabetic cats with SCL come her way. I feel better actually having the BGs tell me how Ruby is doing on an objective level. She is gaining weight and otherwise acting quite herself, but the BGs tell me otherwise. This is good information to have.

You've been almost two months on prednisolone alone. How long did the oncologist say before evaluating if (I hope when) you add in chlorambucil to treat the SCL?

We will be seeing the oncologist again on the 17th. I’ll send Ruby’s SS ahead of time and we’ll discuss the constipation/diarrhea and intermittent vomiting (this seems to have gone away with the overnight snack). She may consider chlorambucil then given these issues, or we might wait until we do the next ultrasound in December. The idea is to make sure the pred alone isn’t helping, and at this point I’m not sure it is, or we need a higher dose.

Work stops at 3 PM on Fridays so I'm home and Ruby is rolling around on her back, asking me for tummy rubs. Wish I could get a handle on her BGs but otherwise she seems to be doing quite all right.

Sounds like Miss Mellow Yellow is feeling pretty good. That’s a plus. Rub that tummy for me.

The idea is to make sure the pred alone isn’t helping, and at this point I’m not sure it is, or we need a higher dose.

Pred alone will help symptoms for a while, until it doesn’t. It doesn’t really stop the underlying SCL. The goal is to try to get her GI symptoms to actually improve longer term. Waiting until December seems like a long time for the SCL to progress.

I’ll see what the oncologist says. I agree it’s a long way off and if the pred was doing it’s thing her numbers should be lower in my humble opinion.

I'm so glad that Ruby was happy and wanted tummy rubs. That's a good sign. I would worry about what was going on that I could not see. But you're already aware of all this... so I will just give hugs and send love to you and Ruby! and Olive, too!

Thank you, Adrienne. Ruby was on 2 units of insulin at the very beginning, when I first learned that the FDMB existed and has no idea what I was doing. Now we're back here again at 2 units and it makes me a little sad, but at least now I know how to use insulin and it's my best weapon right now against whatever is going on inside her.
