Let’s see... she’s still having really big around, dried out, difficult to pass stool. But I’m scared to give her miralax and have it make her hydration levels worse.

she stayed in the 400s ALL DAY. :banghead: I tested her at +10.5 from AM and she was high enough that I just skipped PMPS testing. Obviously don’t copy this behavior from me. Rationale: I needed to do subq fluids anyway around that time so I fed her instead of fasting before PM shot, she’s going to be 400-500 or greater anyway so I know a half unit is safe to shoot....

So my biggest issue right now is I still don’t think she is eating enough calories.
Also she won’t bite her food. She licks it mostly. So I’ve been watering it and watering it and making sludge. It feels like sludge with the phosphorous binder added. Then I have to stir it in front of her face and spoon feed her to encourage eating.

She is still getting Mirataz daily, plus she gets metoclopramide now instead of Cerenia and that should help increase motility as well, alongside helping with nausea.
She is willing to eat but just not enough.
She’s pooping but not enough and too dry.
I’m getting maybe 40-50mL subq in her the past couple days. Then she wiggles and I quit.

I have at least 100mL left in this bag but I think it should be thrown out soon? LRS bags are good for about ten days right? I read it somewhere at some point.

So I want to increase her insulin and bring her down to some manageable level. Does her SS make going up to 0.75 seem reasonable and like she is ready?

What else can I add to her food to get her to eat more or get in more calories? Fortiflora and Imuquin have phosphorous to avoid. I do a little Cosequin and sometimes that helps. She needs something smelly and amazing to her. But IBD/FD/CRF friendly. :arghh:

How low is the Potassium - what is the labs? Has she been checked for anemia?

On 8/31 her potassium was 3.0, she hates blood draws and I didn’t think we would gain any new information by checking again when she went in on Tuesday for her enema. CKD group said to wait about three weeks and get her bloods checked again.

These are labs from 8/31. I don’t see anything that I recognize as indicating anemia?

You look at the HCT (hematocrit) to see if she's anaemic - looks OK!

Have you ever tried bonita or tuna flakes on top of her food? Unless of course she can't eat fish. I find crumbled freeze dried raw in the appropriate protein sometimes helps, with a little extra water on the food.

Bonito flakes didn’t seem to work on her very well, and I’m hesitant to try fishy things again. It’s a pretty common allergen/issue with most cats so I just prefer to avoid the trouble, really.

For awhile she loved the freeze dried duck liver purebites. But now I am thinking... did I read liver would add phosphorous? She loves some good old smelly liver.

+3.1 is 211 after she didn’t want to eat her full dinner. I came back in to her room a bit ago and she was trilling and chirping and waiting for some food. I finally got her to eat solid bites instead of this disgusting baby food looking but worse weird meat mush I’ve been handing her by spoon. :p Followed with phos binder in syringe w water.

She seems like she’s in a good mood now that her sugar has come down. I’m so happy.

Cats are cats and they do nonsensical things like not eating :)
If you can find jars of Beechnut or a similar chicken/turkey baby food, most cats will lap that up at room temperature. I've seen veal work sometimes, but that flavor is hard to find now. I also broil chicken and leave some of the cooked off juice/water in it and then pulse that in a food processor sometimes for my guy and he'll eat that warmed in a mircowave or stove top too. My guy gets all his meds and the CBD/ Hemp oil mixed in turkey baby food daily.

I also feed low phos. foods and KOHA also has those pouches - the shredded chicken and gravy is 0.15% as fed which is pretty low phos (179mg/100Kcal). There is enough moisture in that pouch that my cat will usually eat it with anything (also kept at room temp until opened). I also like that with KOHA, you can order just a few of this and that without having to get a case of something. Those pouches also have some pumpkin in there which might help with those stools...
TIKI cat just came out with some newer pouches. I used to feed the orange chicken mousse, but my cat got a little addicted to it and would refuse his dinner so I phased it out. Same with the TIKI cat Makaha Grill ( mackerel and sardines)- which is also surprisingly low phos. He loved it, but it's pretty sticky stuff. TIKI also have a few pate's that they didn't have before. The Beef liver and Venison is 2% carbs and 0.27% phos which is pretty good if you need a novel protein food for some medication bribery. The Duck and Chicken liver is 0.36% which is little higher, but is about the same as the Ziwi peak you are feeding.

Feeding cats is like getting your PhD in quantum physics or chemistry I believe- just tons of hypothesis and experimentation. GOOD LUCK :)

Below are the suggestions we give when a cat is not wanting to eat. Maybe there is something here that will help Alice. I think Wendy mentioned egg yolk powder to help with constipation. Sending prayers. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Do you have any parmesan cheese? If you maybe sprinkle a little of that on her food, she will perhaps eat? usually ondansetron is better for nausea than cerenia but it doesn't hurt to give her the cerenia....it can help.

Can you finger feed her....either see if she will lick food off your finger or will she let you dab some on the front of her tongue or on the roof of her mouth? Just be careful that it's only a small amount and that you don't get it down her throat.

Here's some info Jill often posts when a kitty won't eat:Here are some things you can do do entice your cat to eat:

-sometimes in order to get a cat to eat you even have to resort to dry it is more important that they eat. there are a couple low carb / grain free brands -- EVO and wellness core.

-making a buffet to give him choices
- heating food

sprinkle food with :
- forta flora -- a probiotic you can get at vets or online. is very smelly and cats love the taste of it.
- parm. cheese
- smashed crumbles of dry food
- Purebites Duck Liver -- crushed and put on as a topper.
- bonito tuna flakes
- halo chicken treats -- crumble into dust over food
- poor a little water from tuna in water over food ( I use low sodium/no sodium added as other kinds in water has veg. broth in it and I assume that means onions, which are toxic to cats-- check labels)
-powdered oregano. yep sounds weird . but some cats like it and it will entice them to eat.

other ideas of foods to offer your kitty to stim appy:
- trader joe tuna for cats
-baby food -- beechnut turkey and broth or chicken and broth. they have no onions or other additives. some babyfoods have onions . please read labels if you can't find beechnut.
- kentucky fried chicken
- deli turkey /chicken
- plain cooked ( boiled or baked ) chicken breast
-canned chicken for people (watch the label that their are no onions)
- chicken broth -- low sodium

Thanks for all the suggestions!
I’ll try to look into the tiki beef and venison, but she can’t have any poultry and I am reticent to try fish and cause issues with that. If chicken could be on the menu this wouldn’t be so complex.

maybe it’s like a PhD in rocket surgery.

Hello Cassandra,

it;s been awhile since I posted here.

I hope you remember my warm feelings towards Alice and that what I am going to say is for her, Alice's well-being. I am going to be (semi) blunt about it.

Stop looking for the outside explanations of what is going on with her. Foods, neds, ...Your behavior=her well being/ unwell being. Stop missing the shots. Stop changing times of the shots. No one but you control what you do.

Change what you can - and it is yourself. Your behavior. Establish the routine timing. Keep the schedule.

12 - 12 schedule for the shots is fundamental in interpreting Lantus.
Period.

I know you have some good reasoning to be off schedule.
Stop these reasonings now. Cancel your own problems now.
Just abandon them. Drop everything but Alice.

Your cat feels as good as you allow her. Be there for her. Do the 12/12 hours shot religiously.

Get on schedule for at least 2 weeks. Then let's review where she is at.

Please try to not take it as offense.
I had to do just the same.
There is nothing but ourselves that can be pressed/ pushed/ submitted to the order of things at the moment.
Nothing else. Nothing will ever come from the outside to help. Just ourselves.

Much love for Alice, hugs, much love and appreciation for your tough circumstances.

I think you’d be better off not judging me or our situation. We do the best we both can with limited means. You don’t know my illnesses or struggles, and I’m doing everything alone. If I don’t rest sometimes I can’t work or support her and that’s that. I have nearly killed myself keeping her as healthy as I can, fighting with fatigue and pain and cognitive difficulties myself the whole way through.

We judge others when we do not understand what suffering they experience. I’d ask you and anyone else to please refrain from judging until you have actually been where I am at, and though you might be guessing that you know, I find it unlikely since we have never shared anything personal between each other.

Saying something offensive and asking someone to not take offense when you say it is akin to crazy-making or gaslighting. You’re free to use your judgment on yourself first, and maybe keep it there.
