hes zonked. No interest in food
Im not going to test him until tomorrow, he is hiding and really not himself.Poor baby. What’s his bg?
Were you asking for a token shot? That crossed my mind tooPoor baby. What’s his bg?
Thats smart and i agree with you. He just seems so traumatized that waiting til tomorrow is where im at. Also taking your advice on talking to the vet for the other medsJust leave him alone until the morning. But a token if he was really high was what I was thinking.
Hi wendy! Are you testing him for ketones? From Ketones, Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA), and Blood Ketone Meters
The basic recipe for developing DKA = an insufficient supply of insulin + inappetance + infection OR other systemic stresses.
You are skipping insulin, he's not eating, and if it's pancreatitis you have inflammation going on. Even cats who cannot eat because they are going to get anaesthesia get a half dose.

Good morning Elise ( well not an amazing one over here but good morning to youThey should have given a cerenia shot as it works faster. You can give them at home as it’s sub-q but it stings so I couldn’t bring myself to give it when I saw that. Who wrote buprinex on there? If you didn’t that’s how that was given I would think.
With repeated tests for ketones I suspect that’s fine but it’s sure frustrating.
I would give at least a token dose. Were you able to test the bg this morning?![]()
)Yes and i actually asked for some and the vet said he did not think it was necessary. I have to call today so i will ask again ( more forcefully this time)The bupe is not long lasting so I don’t understand why you weren’t sent home with some as well. It’s so frustrating not being able to be in the room. My vet’s office has started letting one person in the room per pet and everyone waits outside or in the car until called. Makes so much more sense. I haven’t been but my neighbor has.
I’m so sorry he’s not doing well. At the very least ask for the RX for ondansetron and more bupe for home. He needs to eat and clearly doesn’t feel well. Quick weight loss is the very last thing you need.
Are you working from home? It’s so hard not to be distracted with so much going on. I hope the meds kick in soon.

Hmmm! Well that would explain a lot. 1/3 of the 16 mg pill was what vet suggested. Lando weighs 19 lbs.How. I hope does he weigh? I don’t think that’s enough to do anything.
I really hope lando benefits from all of this good advice soon! I fed him via child syringe. If he keeps it down i will do a bit more.I use gel caps too. When Max got pancreatitis I was giving ondansetron but it was too small a dose and I was giving cyproheptadine every day. Once I figured out the dosing was wrong I didn’t need an appetite stimulant.
No, but they can develop an aversion to the food they are being assist fed with. Make sure it's not one of his regular foods. I got Royal Canin Recovery, which is LC, though A/D isn't bad though MC in carbs. Both are easy to assist feed. Neko would actually eat the Recovery on her own after I gave her a little via syringe. But I fostered a shelter kitty with hepatic lipidosis (fatty liver), who would eat nothing with chicken in it after being assist fed Recovery for 2-3 weeks.Do cats ever develop a lasting fear of their caretakers over this!?!
Thank you Wendy! Good to know that sometimes its an aversion to ANYTHING with that ingredient! I was doing chicken 1 tbsp every hour. I will switch it up to salmon ( his least favorite). No, but they can develop an aversion to the food they are being assist fed with. Make sure it's not one of his regular foods. I'm glad you are getting some food in, try for at least 1/2 to 2/3 of the calories he needs. You don't want to add hepatic lipidosis to the picture. Ditto what Elise said about getting bupe and ondansetron. If doing Cerenia, he should be getting about 1mg per lb of weight. Many vets underdose it.
Thats what was on the menu this amI keep some beechnut chicken or turkey baby food on hand for rougher days.
Thank you wendy! I really appreciate this. Yes i feel pretty confident in shooting the cheek. Im not sure if lando would like chicken flavor or not haha! Will administer at 745. Boy is he gonna hate me tonight! But hope tomorrow am sees a pepped up guy!You can apply to the gum or upper cheek, or under the tongue. I always did the upper cheek. I found a video here, skip the first couple minutes cause you probably have preloaded syringes. Shouldn't be a foam inducer. Neko got her bupe every day for arthritis, so I ended up getting compounded chicken flavour.
